POSITION SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the Bar Apprentice is to provide excellent service to all guests who approach the bar, keep the bar area clean and stocked at all times, handle all prep work for craft cocktails, and assist the Bartender with various duties.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Greetings guests, presents menus, answers questions, and makes suggestions regarding food and beverages. Actively takes orders, gives enticing suggestions, displays complete craft cocktail/wine/beer service, and monitors guests’ experience. Maintains detailed knowledge of menu items, as well as wine lists, including ingredients and preparation. 
  • Prepares and pours all types of drinks for customers and servers upon request. 
  • Maintain familiarity with menu items and specials.
  • Rings orders into the InfoGenesis system and ensures delivery of all items ordered. Presents the check and receives payment. Processes transactions of credit cards, gift cards, gift certificates, house accounts, cash, and traveler’s checks.
  • Mixes drinks according to prescribed recipes; keeps station stocked with all liquor, glasses, and accessories necessary; accounts for all beginning cash register bank, all cash, complimentary drinks, and charge receipts.
  • Prepare order to replenish stock at bar to pre-determined par levels.
  • Maintain high standards of service.
  • Maintain bar cleanliness and polish glassware.
  • Ensure correct health and sanitation practices are followed.
  • Assist new employees with training and answering questions.
  • Check IDs if the guest appears to be under 30.
  • Always be ethical and professional.
  • Follow uniform and appearance standards.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to work inside the assigned bar area in the casino/hotel. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds. 
  • Must be able to bend, pull, and carry bar stock to refrigerators and cabinets. 
  • Must be able to use hand motion when preparing and pouring all types of drinks for customers and servers. 
  • Accurately ring up all orders in the POS system while maintaining the ability to socialize with guests
  • Must be able to operate cash register, two and six-wheel carts, juice, soda, and liquor guns, cutting boards, coffee and frozen drink machines, ice machines, shot glasses, mixers, pourers, blenders, beer keg/soda/wine/juice hook-ups, and knives. 
  • Must be able to listen and respond to visual and aural cues. 
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. 
  • Must be able to tolerate areas containing second-hand smoke, high noise levels, bright lights, and dust.

  • Must be flexible to constantly changing work environments, service positions, and outlet team structures
  • Must be able to adapt to Las Vegas weather, wind, rain, extreme heat, and extreme cold

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Required: Measurable requirements will be used as pre-screening questions

  • 6 months prior to Bartender or Bar Apprentice experience.
  • At least 1 year of previous money handling position.
  • Schedule flexibility, which may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • High school degree or equivalent. 


PREFERED:

  • Previous experience working in a similar resort setting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the ability to perform moderate to heavy physical tasks throughout the duration of each shift. Candidates must be able to meet the following physical requirements:

  • Lift, carry, and maneuver cases of beer, water, and liquor (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Change and connect kegs, including lifting full kegs of varying weights
  • Safely climb step stools or ladders to access overhead storage and supplies
  • Remove and transport trash bags and bins throughout the shift
  • Operate hand trucks and utility carts to move product and equipment
  • Stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods of time
  • Must have the physical ability to access all areas of the facility; move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects; withstand prolonged standing, stretching, bending, kneeling, lifting, and carrying items weighing at least 50 lbs. without restriction.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Physical stamina and proper mental attitude to work under pressure; work indoors and outdoors, as well as being exposed to hot/cold surfaces, steam, and wet floors.
  • Most work tasks are performed indoors; however, there are events where outdoor activities are required. Indoor temperatures are moderate and controlled by internal environmental systems.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, busy, and noisy environment.
