JOB DESCRIPTION – ELEMENTARY DEAF & HARD OF HEARING TEACHER
Qualifications:
1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain
2. Deaf/Hard of Hearing Endorsement (SL) or the ability to obtain
3. Good written and verbal communication skills
4. Have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
5. Have demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others
Reports to: Building Principal and Program director
Job Goal: This position is for an upper elementary Deaf/Hard of Hearing teacher (Auditory-Oral Classroom)
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Able to deliver specialized instruction in a differentiated capacity based on needs of the students in the classroom
2. Participate in the development and promotion of the special education philosophy of service and delivery (Oral/Auditory)
3. Actively participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
4. Provide direct and co-taught instruction in the areas of math, ELA, communication skills, social skills, transition and self-advocacy
5. Participate in regular professional learning opportunities to stay abreast of current research- based instructional methodologies
6. Cooperate in planning curriculum and instructional programs with other instructional and support personnel to encourage integrated team services for the students.
7. Develop and implement comprehensive IEP’s based on individual student needs
8. Maintain necessary documentation of student performance through regular progress monitoring
9. Participate regularly on teams to analyze student- and building-level data, resolve problems, and select evidence-based interventions and supports
10. Support and assist students, school staff, and parents with use of assistive technology and amplification devices used by students during the school day
11. Regularly document and monitor student progress toward goals and objectives
12. Maintain records and complete billing activities associated with Medicaid School-Based Services.
13. All other duties as assigned
Reports To: Building Principal
Salary: $48,877 - $88,689 based on experience and degree
Length of Contract: 185 days
Start Date: August 24, 2026 - This is an approximate date. There may be new hire meetings to attend as well
