Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Prepares bids and written proposals based upon specifications provided directly by the customer and/or from the Business Development Managers. This position requires the ability to handle multiple tasks to meet customer-mandated time schedules.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the bids and proposals process to estimate costs and prepares detailed written proposals and compliance matrices.
  • Possesses highly desired skills and exposure related to estimating data-center projects, including familiarity with redundancy strategies (N/N+1/2N), UPS and battery system integration, busway distribution, high-density electrical layouts, and customer-specific standards common within the data-center sector.
  • Brings strong, preferred experience working with industrial electrical systems, including direct involvement with MCCs, switchgear, transformers, VFDs, and other process-driven equipment. This includes familiarity gained through hands-on estimating or project coordination, as well as a solid understanding of industrial specification structures, sequencing, and coordination requirements typical in manufacturing, utility, and heavy-industrial environments.
  • Reads and interprets one-line wiring diagrams to determine equipment needs for estimate.
  • Reviews project specifications and drawings, builds clarifications and exceptions, and calls out discrepancies based on experience.
  • Determines material quantities and labor required for total job cost. This is accomplished using tables and data established within the department and obtaining quotations from suppliers and/or subcontractors.
  • Assists with preparation of sales bid forms as needed.
  • Works with Purchasing to maintain accurate material costs on the shelter bid forms.
  • Works with Human Resources to maintain accurate labor costs on the shelter bid summary sheet.
  • Assists the Business Development Managers with follow-up by phone on previous quotations submitted to the customer.
  • Checks and confirms that customer specifications and purchase orders are in acknowledgement of written proposals.
  • Operates with minimal supervision to execute all levels of complexity of bids and proposals.
  • Maintains key customer knowledge and insight including customer standards, familiarity with previous key customer quote opportunities, and key customer expectations regarding scope, pricing, and lead time.
  • Performs other tasks as required by the Bids and Proposals Manager or Lead Estimator.
