About Our Team
We are looking for a Performance Engineer to run hands‑on performance and latency tests for Qira on physical devices in our Chicago office lab. This role focuses on collecting accurate performance measurements, running structured test plans, and reporting results to engineering teams. It is a fully on‑site role due to the need to handle hardware, test stands, and controlled device environments.
Qira is Lenovo’s cross‑device Personal AI that works across phones, PCs, and other Lenovo and Motorola products. Qira combines on‑device and cloud intelligence to provide fast, consistent, and reliable AI responses. The Qira engineering team builds and tests the full system behind this experience, including device software, cloud services, and AI components
Location: On-site in Chicago, IL. This role is hybrid (3 days in office and 2 days remote).
What You'll Do
Run manual and automated performance and latency tests on Qira devices (PCs, phones, tablets).
Execute test plans for cold‑start latency, model response times, CPU/GPU load, memory use, battery impact, network conditions, and cross‑device performance.
Use monitoring tools, logs, and profiling utilities to collect reliable data from devices.
Set up, configure, and maintain device test stations, including OS builds, Qira versions, and test environments.
Record, organize, and report performance results to engineering teams in clear, accurate formats.
Reproduce reported performance issues and validate performance fixes.
Follow structured processes for device flashing, test updates, and controlled testing conditions.
Basic Qualifications
4+ years of experience running performance or latency tests on software, mobile devices, or hardware systems.
Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Technical discipline
Experience with Android, Windows, or device‑level performance tools.
Experience following structured test plans and accurately capture numerical results.
Experience working hands‑on with devices, cables, builds, and lab equipment.
Experience with basic logs, metrics, and debugging steps.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with mobile or PC hardware performance testing.
Exposure to AI/ML workloads or latency‑sensitive applications.
Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills.
Familiarity with device flashing, ADB, performance profilers, or network throttling tools.
Experience working in an engineering lab or device test environment.
What Success Looks Like
Accurate and consistent performance measurements across devices and builds.
Clear reporting of performance changes, trends, and regressions.
Stable, reliable test conditions and well‑maintained device setups.
Strong collaboration with engineering teams to support performance investigations.
