Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Varsity Softball Coach
School: Detroit Cristo Rey High School
Department: Athletics
Reports To: Athletic Director
Compensation: Stipend Position

Position Summary

Detroit Cristo Rey High School is seeking a passionate, committed, and student-

centered Assistant Varsity Softball Coach to support the development of our softball

program. The ideal candidate will assist in building a competitive program that

emphasizes skill development, teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and academic

success.

This position plays a vital role in mentoring student-athletes while upholding the mission

and values of Detroit Cristo Rey High School and the Cristo Rey Network model.

Primary Responsibilities

  •  Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, workouts, and game strategies
  • Teach fundamental softball skills, conditioning, and game techniques
  • Support player development both athletically and academically
  •  Promote positive sportsmanship and character development
  • Help monitor academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes
  • Assist with equipment inventory and care
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team activities
  •  Support off-season training and program development
  •  Ensure compliance with school, league, and MHSAA regulations
  •  Foster positive relationships with players, parents, staff, and administration

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Previous softball playing and/or coaching experience preferred
  •  Knowledge of high school softball rules and regulations
  •  Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes
  • Commitment to academic excellence and character formation
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  •  Must complete required background checks and compliance training
  •  Prior high school coaching experience
  • Experience working in urban or faith-based educational environments
  •  Season & Time Commitment
  •  Spring season (March–June)
  • After-school practices and games
  • Occasional weekend games or team events
  •  Off-season involvement encouraged
