Job Description

About the Department

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Economic Development, the Economic Development Coordinator will perform a variety of economic development activities and administrative duties. The Economic Development Coordinator is responsible for assisting in developing and implementing business retention and expansion programs, local marketing communication strategies to promote, attract and retain businesses and development in the City of Anna.
This position will provide support to the Economic Development staff and ensure successful implementation of the City's Comprehensive Plan, Downtown Master Plan and Economic Development Strategic Plan. 

Position Duties

  • Assist with collecting, assembling and preparing business recruitment communications, presentations, proposals and agreements, including conducting research, developing target presentations, reports and information.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining programs that encourage retention and expansion of existing businesses and industries within the city, to include visits, surveying business needs, serve as a liaison between companies and City Departments. Follow-up on needs and questions when they arise.
  • Work with the Assistant Director and the Communications Department to write, develop, produce, and distribute marketing collateral materials including but not limited to brochures, aerial maps, packet materials, newsletters, email bulletins, videos and other related materials depicting economic development events, opportunities, and projects.
  • Assist in the creation of appropriate data for the EDC website and other marketing materials based on sector strategies and targets, messaging, and content, coordinating with the Communications Department in this process.
  • Assist in ensuring all deadlines and commitments are met timely and per project goals and objectives.
  • Research and analyze demographic, social, economic, and other data for planning purposes.
  • Research, compile, and maintain current economic, demographic, and other development related information for internal and external uses. Update, maintain, post and coordinate information about the Economic Development Department on websites and social media pages.
  • Collect data and maintain available land sites and property databases.
  • Consistently update the EDC/CDC website, prints and social media marketing and advertising programs.
  • Market the City by assisting in the development of monthly Economic Development Newsletter and posting on EDC/CDC social media platforms to attract business.
  • Assist in preparing monthly department reports referencing measurable goals, reporting standards and benchmarks aligned with Strategic Plan.
  • Represent the City as a liaison in local and regional economic development, retail, business, marketing, and related associations and at meetings, conferences, and trade shows, requiring occasional travel and work outside of normal business hours.
  • Work closely and establish relationships with the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce and other strategic partners to promote Anna as a destination for private sector investment.
  • Coordinate with other City departments to evaluate and recommend enhancements to current policies and practices, monitor trends, analyze information, and develop proposals that will attract businesses.
  • Assist with application for economic development incentives; track and monitor this process.
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings and events and work on special projects as assigned.
  • Provide reports to the EDC Director, Assistant Director and other staff as directed.
  • Regularly attend monthly CDC/EDC Meetings.
  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors, stakeholders, and neighbors.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates degree plus 4 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess a valid Class "C" driver's license and the ability to maintain driving requirements.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check and MVR check
Domestic travel and some off-site working meetings as necessary – 10% of the time

SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED
Intermediate: Presentation/PowerPoint, Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing, Canva and MailChimp.
Basic: Accounting, Alphanumeric Data Entry, Contact Management

Occasional use of highly complex machines and equipment; specialized or advanced software programs.
