SUMMARY: The occupational therapist is responsible for assessment, planning, and goal development and for providing appropriate intervention services designed to enhance the student's potential for learning, to assist the skills needed to participate in and benefit from the educational environment, and to help the student function independently. Responsible for assessing and providing occupational therapy for students ranging from Preschool to 12th grade and encouraging functional independence and participation within the learning environment. Provide therapy based on student’s Individualized Educational Program (IEP).

SUMMARY: The occupational therapist is responsible for assessment, planning, and goal
development and for providing appropriate intervention services designed to enhance the
student's potential for learning, to assist the skills needed to participate in and benefit from
the educational environment, and to help the student function independently. Responsible for
assessing and providing occupational therapy for students ranging from Preschool to 12th
grade and encouraging functional independence and participation within the learning
environment. Provide therapy based on student’s Individualized Educational Program (IEP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must
be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative

• Carries out assessment and evaluation procedures for students with disabilities.
• Interpretation of test results provided in written form.
• Plans and develops therapeutic intervention goals that are educationally relevant and will be
used in student's educational programs.
• Maintains and is accountable for the therapy budget, inventory and equipment.
• Establishes a system of documentation of attendance and progress that is professional,
efficient and accountable.
• Constructs, modifies, and maintains adaptive equipment for positioning, ADL, vocational and
classroom use.
• Assists in monitoring work, home and school environments for accessibility.
• Helps ensure the proper and safe use of equipment, making certain equipment is constructed
properly and maintained in good working order.
• Helps develop an awareness of individual student needs and monitors these needs.
• Instructs the educational staff concerning use of adaptive equipment, positioning programs
and integration of therapy goals into classroom and academic activities to enhance function.
• Assures that proper positioning and handling techniques are carried out correctly across all
environments.
• Attends pertinent staff meetings to share information and suggestions for programs with
school staff and parents.
• Participates as necessary in screenings to assist in the identification of children with physical
disabilities.
• Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to school staff members to assist in
identifying appropriate referrals.
• Provides information and consulting to parents and families as is appropriate.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers, and other staff members as well as parents to
implement therapy by suggestions for student's daily activities.

• Attend work and arrive in a timely manner
• Perform other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Annually as approved by the Board of Education
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Completion of an accredited education program that is approved by the American
Occupational Therapy Association, and all field work requirements.
• Must be registered by the Occupational Therapy Certification Board (OTCB) following
successful completion of the National Certification Examination.
• Pediatric work experience preferred
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
• Valid Colorado Special Services license with Occupational Therapist endorsement required.
• Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
(NBCOT) required.
• Valid Occupational Therapist license through the Department of Regulatory Agencies
(DORA) required.
• CPR and First Aid certifications preferred.

work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the
appropriate administrator.
