Purpose of the job

Provide expert legal and regulatory interpretation of global Food Contact (FC) requirements and Product Safety regulations linked to FC requirements to ensure consistent, Group wide compliance, support plants and Business Units (BUs), and deliver high quality regulatory documentation to customers.

 

Main responsibilities

Scope:

  • Provide regulatory support to all Group manufacturing sites producing food contact grades (approximately 25 plants worldwide).
  • Cover regulatory frameworks across major global jurisdictions, including the EU and its Member States, the United States, China, Mercosur, Japan, and other key markets.
  • Support regulatory compliance for raw materials, including cellulosic and synthetic fibers, as well as all types of food‑contact additives and processing aids used in paper and/or plastic FCM.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Global Regulatory & Legal Expertise

  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret global regulations related to food contact materials and product safety, ensuring continuous compliance with evolving legal landscapes.
  • Provide early intelligence on emerging regulatory trends, identifying potential impacts on products, materials, and customer expectations.
  • Maintain, update, and enhance Group regulatory frameworks, including interpretation notes, compliance guidelines, and internal position papers.

 

Support to Plants & Business Units (Group-Level Scope)

  • Deliver clear regulatory interpretation and guidance to Plants and BUs, especially for customer audits, inquiries, and qualification processes.
  • Prepare accurate, consistent, and legally robust customer regulatory documents such as Declarations of Compliance (DoCs), and position statements on substances or materials.
  • Ensure all regulatory communication is fully aligned with Group rules, scientific evidence, and legal requirements.

 

Documentation & Technical‑Legal Writing

  • Draft high‑quality regulatory documents, including explanations, summaries, FAQs, interpretation notes, and internal guidelines, that are clear, concise, and legally sound.
  • Translate complex regulatory and scientific information into accessible guidance for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Consolidate technical and expert inputs into final customer-facing documentation ensuring accuracy, consistency, and clarity.
  • Maintain Group templates, regulatory frameworks, and standard documentation to ensure harmonized practices across regions.
  • Use the Group’s dedicated regulatory IT platform to manage regulatory data and updates, and integrate inputs from trade associations, expert networks, and internal stakeholders.

 

Internal & External Collaboration Collaborations

  • Collaborate closely with the Group Supplier Quality Assurance Specialist (raw material risk assessment) and the Group FC&PS Testing & Lab Qualification Specialist (migration, testing, analytical work).
  • Support Product Management, R&D, Quality, and Sales on regulatory aspects related to innovations, product modifications, and customer projects.
  • Work with Plant teams and Business Units across regions to ensure shared understanding and consistent application of regulatory requirements.
  • Support interactions with customers, trade associations, and regulatory authorities, representing the Group's regulatory positions when needed.

 

Qualifications (minimum level of knowledge and skills to fulfill one’s responsibilities)

  • Master’s degree in Regulatory Affairs, Food Law, European Law, Chemistry, Toxicology, Food Science, or equivalent with strong legal exposure.
  • 7–10 years in food contact compliance roles.
  • Proven ability to draft regulatory documents and interpret international and national legislation.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing sites and customer regulatory requests

  • Strong knowledge of international and national FCM and product safety regulations and principles.
  • Ability to interpret complex legislation and turn it into practical guidance.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • High personal organization, autonomy, and attention to detail.

  • Proficient in Excel and SharePoint.
