Job Description

The Controls Technician Supervisor is responsible for the successful planning and supervising controls technician schedules, project assignments, and execution.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead & manage skills of controls technicians in a collaborative manner. 
  • Work closely with the Mechanical Installation Manager and Electrical Installation Manager to evaluate, coordinate & optimize installations.  This includes resource allocation, schedule development & adherence, etc. based on project requirements.
  • Communicate & enforce IPM and/or customer safety standards.  Ensure all personnel have proper & up to date safety training.
  • Assist the Project Managers with definition of installation scope & schedule to ensure that installation crews have all necessary project documentation and/or equipment. 
  • Participate in the interviewing, hiring and onboarding of controls technicians to ensure technical and IPM Principles fit.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews, provide input; data, observations, feedback and make compensation recommendations.
  • Assist in the development of training and growth plans for controls technicians & maintain training status of all technicians.  Ensure training is kept up to date.
  • Maintain an up to date resource schedule for controls technicians based on project resource requests.  Communicate the schedule to technicians & Project Managers in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the Controls Engineering Manager to coordinate on-site resource allocation between technicians and engineers.
  • Evaluate & initiate continuous improvement initiatives for installations that will improve the profitability of IPM.
  • Facilitate or delegate the IPM 24 hour phone support within the Controls Technician team. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in controls engineering or troubleshooting.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, MS Project, AutoCAD, PLC programming, controls hardware & software, EPICOR or other ERP software.
  • Proficient knowledge of palletizing concepts and automation.
  • Proficient skills in programming Allen Bradley PLCs, HMI, Drives, and Servos.
  • Experience with line control in high-speed packaging lines.
  • Robot programming skills for FANUC or Kuka with experience in Palletizing.
  • Strong understanding of industrial automation technologies, including PLCs, SCADA, HMI, and Robotics. (Allen Bradley, Fanuc, and Kuka preferred).

 

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related field or equivalent work experience.  Other degrees considered on a case-by-case basis.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing and sitting for extended periods of time.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% travel.
