The City of Waco Seeks

An organized leader to manage the operations and staff of the Waco Mammoth National Monument. This role oversees planning, resource allocation, and programs related to the display and interpretation of artifacts and exhibits.


Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in history, Museum Management, Archeology, Paleontology, Business, Public Administration or a related field
  • 4 years of experience at the senior management level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must successfully complete any additional background checks required for the position, which may include a CJIS background check, federal background check, or other applicable screenings (e.g., FAA).


Position Description
 
Under general supervision, manages the operations and staff of the Waco Mammoth National Monument (WMNM) through effective planning, staff management, and resource allocation; manages programs for the display of artifacts and exhibits relating to the WMNM.


Position Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, coordinates and oversees WMNM operations, programs, educational activities and special events; ensures all activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies and City goals.
  • Develops and presents scientific interpretive tours, educational programs and public engagement activities; coordinates program promotion and outreach with the general public, community agencies and partner organizations.
  • Manages facility use and event scheduling; ensures venues and facilities are maintained in a clean, safe and operational condition.
  • Directs and supervises staff in program planning, operations, research, publications, improvement initiatives and budgeting; assigns work, monitors progress, evaluates performance and supports staff development.
  • Manages operational, administrative, marketing, development, safety, security and regulatory functions; oversees budgets, revenues and expenditures while supporting fundraising, marketing, facility management and asset protection efforts.
  • Exercises independent judgment within broad policy guidelines to develop plans that support WMNM goals; identifies priorities, defines desired outcomes and encourages innovative and collaborative problem-solving approaches.
  • Monitors trends in museum operations and management; researches development opportunities and recommends operational, procedural and policy improvements.
  • Collects and analyzes operational, statistical and financial information and prepares reports to support planning, decision-making and organizational accountability.
  • Represents WMNM and the City at professional, civic and community events to promote programs and strengthen relationships with local businesses, cultural organizations and civic leaders.
  • May be required to respond after hours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
