Position Summary

The ResearchEngineer 2 will play an integral part of the COSMIAC organization and will coordinatethe work of the engineering team ensuring that all science requirements are met by hardware and payload design. The candidate provides chemical and systems engineering technical support for researchon spaceflight missionsfor grants and contracts awarded toa principal investigator. Individual will collect,develop, analyze, communicate, and consult on a wide range of space-based data and other requirements. he will perform applied research, design, and execute a wide-ranging analytical and statistical studies. Provides functional
leadership, training,and guidance to other researchers, as appropriate.

Conditions of Employment
  • Professional Engineer (PE) may be required, depending upon field of expertise.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a directly related field; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Maintaining a DoD Security Clearance
  • Serves as a principal point of contact for space systems for the COSMIAC Research Center. Represents the COSMIAC Center to the School of Engineering (SoE), and the Mechanical Engineering Department
  • Prepares, supervises, and provides education and training to junior engineers. Coordinates facility improvements to ensure proper (and safe) working environment for junior personnel
  • Performs functional analysis of electrical designs to determine institutional resources available to complete complex programs
  • Uses statistical analysis to analyze and consult on the results of power designs using statistical metrics and techniques
  • Utilize software to design, manipulate, summarize, and produce reports from multiple, large, complex data sets and generic design features
  • Designs, analyzes, builds, and tests special-purpose equipment and/or instrumentation for research purposes concerning national defense, outer space, industry, or global environment
  • Coordinates with procurement and human resources personnel to ensure individuals working as subordinates are provided with complete capabilities for job success
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, ability to prioritize, coordinate work tasks, and meet multiple deadlines
  • Ability to travel to off-site and on base locations as needed.
