Description:
The role of the Diamond Turning/Grinding Technician is responsible for configuring and using precision machinery to manufacture molds used in the production of aspheric, spherical, and diffractive lenses. By following technical specifications, drawings, and blueprints related to optical components, the Diamond Turning/ Grinding Technician plays a pivotal role in guaranteeing the creation of molds of superior quality.

Responsibilities:
- Set up CNC machines with tools, fixtures, and workpieces per set up sheet or programs.
- Adjust machine tool offsets, speeds, and feeds as necessary.
- Inspect final products with measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gages.
- Perform secondary operations utilizing manual equipment when necessary.
- Possess understanding of G-Code programming, edits, and updates programs if required.
- Perform maintenance on machines as required.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Special Authority:
- Stop any nonconforming process(es) which may affect safety, poor quality or customer satisfaction
- Report any halted nonconforming process(es) to production manager, quality department, and/or process engineer.
Knowledge, ability and skills:
- Ability to work independently with little to no supervision
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
- Knowledge of computer data entry/retrieval procedures and basic machinist skills.
- Experience with standard measurement equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, microscopes, profile projectors, etc.
- Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to solve basic math problems
- Regularly required to sit, talk and hear
- Frequently required to walk or smell
- Occasional standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds
- Able to work with moderate level of noise
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English.
