The Team
Clyde & Co’s Property & Liability team in Manchester is part of the firm’s market-leading global insurance practice, acting for a wide range of London market insurers, MGAs, and corporate clients. The team is recognised for its strength in handling complex and high-value property damage and liability claims, with particular expertise in areas such as subsidence, construction, and specialist insurance coverage disputes.
The team works collaboratively across offices and practice areas, offering Associates exposure to a broad spectrum of work including general property damage, public liability, construction and rail liability, and construction defect claims. With a strong focus on technical excellence and client service, the team provides an excellent platform for developing lawyers to build deep sector knowledge and progress their careers.
The Role
Clyde & Co is seeking a number of Associates (1–4 PQE) to join its established Property & Liability team across Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a leading insurance practice, handling a broad mix of high-quality property damage and liability matters for London market clients.
The role offers exposure to a diverse caseload, including general property damage and public liability claims, alongside more specialist work such as subsidence and utility claims. Associates will also have the opportunity to work on complex, high value construction and rail liability matters.
Key Responsibilities
Advising insurers and London market clients on insurance policy coverage, including property, business interruption, and public liability policies.
Handling specialist coverage matters such as Construction All Risks (CAR) and latent defect insurance.
Conducting liability defence work, including managing high-value and complex claims for London market insurers and Managing General Agents (MGAs).
Developing defence strategies and handling claims through to resolution, including litigation where required.
Managing subrogated recovery claims, including general commercial property losses, construction-related recoveries (including CAR and latent defect claims).
Handling a varied caseload of: general property damage claims, public liability matters, subsidence and tree root claims, construction and rail liability disputes, construction defect claims.
Supporting clients through all stages of the claims process, from initial instruction through to resolution.
Working collaboratively within a specialist team while maintaining responsibility for your own matters.
Candidate Profile
Qualified solicitor (1–4PQE), ideally with experience in insurance litigation, construction litigation, property damage, or liability claims.
Strong interest in property and liability work, with a willingness to develop expertise in specialist areas such as construction and subsidence.
Excellent analytical and drafting skills.
Ability to manage a varied caseload and meet deadlines.
Strong client relationship and communication skills.
A proactive and team-oriented approach.
