Compensation & Benefits: $65,000 – $100,00 annually

Role Overview

The Commercial Lender is a key financial position responsible for developing, managing, and evaluating a portfolio of commercial loan accounts. This individual coordinates with the Bank President in implementing bank policy and procedures, ensuring all loans are within established lending guidelines, and providing profitability to the bank at minimum risk. This role requires a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional who can analyze complex financial data, structure customized lending solutions, and proactively drive business development while maintaining a commitment to exceptional customer service.

Essential Duties:

  • Interview loan applicants and analyze complex financial data, including statements and tax returns, to determine the creditworthiness of prospective borrowers.
  • Establish and negotiate terms under which credit will be extended, including rates, loan structure, and collateral requirements, based on the borrower’s financial status and the bank’s lending policy.
  • Underwrite and analyze credit and financial information to determine creditworthiness.
  • Prepare loan proposals, presentations, and detailed credit memos for loan committees or internal approvers.
  • Approve loans up to individual lending authority and serve as the contact officer on loans exceeding this limit.
  • Monitor and evaluate the financial condition of existing loans through direct inspection, review of interim financial reports, and personal interviews.
  • Manage a loan portfolio and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients to drive growth and success.
  • Develop new business by actively contacting prospective customers and cross-selling bank products and services.
  • Monitor loan repayment activities and assist with collection duties on past-due accounts.
  • Communicate loan decisions, terms, and conditions to clients and ensure all loan documentation is compliant with company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in various community affairs to increase the bank's visibility and create new business opportunities.
  • Regular, reliable and predictable attendance is an essential function of this role.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of credit and financial analysis, with the ability to evaluate and analyze complex financial statements and tax returns.
  • Knowledge of loan documentation and portfolio management is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (using accurate word usage, grammar, and spelling) to present to committees and communicate clearly with clients.
  • Professional phone etiquette is essential.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to build long-term relationships with clients.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and lending policies and procedures, ensuring all documentation complies.
