Job Description

Position Summary: 

The Sterile Processing Technician II ‐ Weekend will provide quality processed materials and equipment for safe patient care, as well as participate in the orientation/coaching/mentoring of new staff.

 

Education, License & Cert: 

High School education or GED required. Central sterile processing certification preferred. Must be currently certified in sterile processing.

 

Experience: 

2 years experience in the surgical or relevant field.  Must be able to follow detailed written and oral instructions. Must have good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of the medical staff.

 

Essential Functions: 

1. Follows Standard Work in the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high‐level disinfection, and sterile storage areas to properly handle instruments/equipment to provide safe patient care. Utilizes instrument/equipment manufacturer’s instructions for use when necessary.

2. Communicate and work collaboratively with other staff in the department, as well as other units. Represents the department and hospital in a professional, courteous manner.

3. Attend and participate in departmental in‐services, huddles, and meetings.  Understands key quality measures and demonstrate willingness to participate in problem solving and performance improvement activities.

4. Acts as a clinical resource for staff, a preceptor for new employees, participates in the orientation process.  Acts as coach and mentor for staff to promote utilization of standard work.

5. Demonstrates effective time management, flexibility, prioritization, and critical thinking skills in performance of duties.

6. Demonstrates knowledge and maintains competency of standard work / key work processes.

7. Applies principles of microbiology, disinfection, sterilization, and modes of disease transmission to promote an infection free environment.

8. Uses proper body mechanics when moving or transferring items to prevent injury to self or others.

9. Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

10. Protects patient privacy and follows hospital/departmental policies and procedures.
