POSITION SUMMARY
The Process / Manufacturing Engineer is a hands-on, production-floor-based role responsible for supporting and improving manufacturing processes, ensuring product quality, and serving as a key liaison between Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, and Quality. This position focuses on driving process consistency, resolving production issues, and ensuring equipment is built, tested, and validated in accordance with engineering specifications, ISO 9001 requirements, and customer expectations.
This role owns and manages the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process, coordinating changes across departments to ensure proper evaluation, documentation, implementation, and communication. In addition, the position supports quality initiatives including in-process inspections, nonconformance management, and root cause analysis.
The Process / Manufacturing Engineer plays a critical role in bridging design intent with production execution�ensuring processes are efficient, repeatable, and continuously improving while maintaining a strong presence on the shop floor.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
- Production Support & Process Ownership (Primary Focus)
- Serve as a daily presence on the production floor, supporting technicians and resolving manufacturing issues in real time.
- Develop, document, and improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure builds align with engineering drawings, BOMs, routings, and specifications.
- Identify process inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and variability; implement improvements to increase throughput and consistency.
- Support ERP system accuracy related to BOMs, routings, and production workflows.
- Engineering Change Management (Core Responsibility)
- Initiate, submit, and manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
- Coordinate cross-functional review of proposed changes with Engineering, Production, and Quality.
- Track change status, ensure proper approvals, and drive timely implementation.
- Communicate changes clearly to production teams and update all affected documentation (drawings, BOMs, work instructions, etc.).
- Ensure changes are effectively validated and sustained in production.
- Quality & Continuous Improvement (Secondary Focus)
- Support in-process and final inspections to verify conformance to specifications and customer requirements.
- Identify, document, and help resolve nonconformances.
- Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Analyze trends in defects, rework, and failures to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in developing standardized inspection criteria, checklists, and validation procedures.
- Testing, Validation & Troubleshooting
- Support functional testing and validation of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control systems as needed.
- Troubleshoot production and test failures using structured, data-driven problem-solving methods.
- Ensure equipment meets safety, performance, and acceptance criteria prior to shipment.
WHAT SETS YOU UP FOR SUCCESS
- Associate or Bachelor�s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Quality, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in a manufacturing, process engineering, or production support role.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic systems.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot production issues using structured problem-solving methods.
- Experience working with engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with quality processes including inspections, nonconformance tracking, and root cause analysis.
- Experience supporting or managing engineering changes (ECR/ECO process preferred).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Comfortable working hands-on in a production environment around heavy equipment.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with ground support equipment (GSE), mobile equipment, truck upfitting, or industrial machinery.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards and QMS requirements.
- Experience with ERP systems (BOMs, routings, change management).
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience supporting testing, commissioning, or customer acceptance activities.
