Salary Range: $15.00 - $16.00
Hours: Various Hours based on the needs of the facility including weekends
JOB SUMMARY
Under supervision of clubhouse manager and/or assistants, performs a variety of tasks required for maintaining an orderly flow of play in accordance with the reserved tee times. Responsible for seeing that all appropriate fees have been paid before play begins. Responsible for explaining all daily rules as well as pace of play rules to customers. The Starter will act in a proper manner and be courteous to all groups in accordance with the procedures in the Fox Run manual. The Starter position requires the employee be physically able to maneuver the cart ramp, operate a golf cart, and assist with the staging and takedown of carts and any other duties that are deemed relevant to the starter position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Working knowledge of the golf operation while in a positive manner enforcing the golf course and Park District policies.
- Properly checks and marks cash receipt from the golf shop. No one will be allowed to play without a receipt.
- Positioned near the starter station to ensure an orderly flow of play in accordance with reservations.
- When necessary, point out the dress code and any other rules in a courteous manner.
- Assist those players without a tee time in finding a group to play with. We want to use the facility to its maximum efficiency by keeping foursomes when ever possible.
- Keep accurate records of the days play; no shows, 9 hole turn times, pace of play warnings, cart numbers, number of players. Records will be turned in to Pro Shop at end of day.
- Supervise the play in accordance with the club rules. Inform golfers of the pace of play programs as well as the course rules and convey any special circumstances that may be in affect for that day
- CPR and First Aid certified-training conducted by the Elk Grove Park District.
- Performs the job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
- Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Keep a sufficient supply of scorecards and pencils at first tee.
- During times when it is slow, police the surrounding area for cleanliness and order and assist the cart attendant with the staging of carts and monitor nearby tees and greens for pace of play.
- Always act in a professional and courteous manner when communication with customers and staff.
- Apprise management of any situations that may become detrimental to golf operations.
- Any other area of responsibility when necessary as delegated by manager or assistants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of the game of golf
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Work in a team environment
- Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
- Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma.
- Background with golf course operations is helpful but not necessary.
