Position Summary: The Trial Prep Unit (TPU) Senior Claim Examiner is responsible for handling complex and high exposure litigated general liability bodily injury and property damage claims. This includes making coverage determinations, directing investigations, making liability determinations, evaluating damages and collaborating with defense counsel to ensure that all cases are properly prepared for a potential trial.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and verify coverage throughout the life of a claim.
- Review and analyze various documents such as contracts, leases, condo/co-op governing documents, the insured’s business records, public records, medical records, property damage scopes, etc.
- Conduct factual investigation directly or with the assistance of investigators.
- Maintain accurate and complete file notes.
- Maintain current and meaningful diary system.
- Setting proper reserves timely; making fair and prompt settlement determinations.
- Negotiate settlements.
- Coordinate efforts with defense counsel to develop strategies and disposition plans.
- Make certain that all discovery, expert/IME, and motions are made timely and in accordance with the established defense strategy.
- Attend mediations.
- Follow all company and departmental protocols.
- Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.
