GENERAL PURPOSE
This position performs responsible entry level work in the care and cleaning of school buildings. Work is performed under regular supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists when needed in opening or closing the building
Fills in for Custodian III when needed.
Assists in stripping and refinishing floors as assigned.
Assists as assigned in cleaning classrooms, restrooms, etc.
Cleans school Building interiors.
Dusts assigned areas daily.
Washes windows, doors, and ceramic tile as assigned.
Mops halls and floors as assigned.
Assists in stripping and refinishing floors as assigned.
Vacuums assigned areas daily.
Sweeps assigned areas daily.
Collects and empties trash daily.
Adjusts shades or blinds daily.
Cleans chewing gum from floors.
Cleans light fixtures as assigned.
Washes drinking fountain daily.
Keeps the bathroom clean during the day.
Keeps towels, toilet tissue, and hand soap in constant supply in bathrooms.
Assists in cleaning the cafeteria as assigned.
Closes all windows in the assigned area daily.
Policies school grounds assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and/or experience which provides the required knowledge and skills.
Possessions of or the ability to acquire appropriate license(s), certificate(s), and/or endorsements(s) for position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and school staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment is both inside and outside; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, oils, and wearing a respirator.
The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment;
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects;
Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or small parts, operation of machines, and observing general surroundings and activities.
