Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Nutritionist to join our team at the YMCA and make a meaningful impact in the community. In this role, you’ll lead engaging nutrition programs, provide one-on-one guidance, and support individuals and families in building healthier lifestyles. POSITION SUMMARY: 

The nutritionist or certified nutrition specialist (CNS) will provide evidence based nutrition education, personalized consultation, and specialized guidance for members pursuing weight management- including those using GLP1 therapies such as Ozempic or Wegovy. This role will also include operation and interpretation of InBody body composition analysis, supporting members through their wellness journeys in alignment with the YMCA’s mission of improving community health.  This aligns with YMCA wellness roles, which emphasize guiding members toward healthier lives and providing coaching within wellness facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Nutrition Education & Counseling 

Assess member dietary needs, health history, lifestyle, and wellness goals. 

Develop customized nutrition plans that support healthy eating, long-term weight management, and improved overall wellness. 

Provide education on macronutrients, micronutrients, hydration, and sustainable food habits.

GLP1 (Ozempic/Wegovy) Support 

Offer specialized nutritional counseling for members using GLP1 medications, focusing on:  

Managing appetite suppression 

Monitoring for nutrient deficiencies 

Preventing muscle loss 

Supporting healthy, sustainable weight reduction 

Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure safe, coordinated care. 

Weight Management Programming 

Lead YMCA based weight loss workshops, group education sessions, and wellness challenges. 

Track client progress and optimize nutrition plans to enhance results. 

InBody Scale Operation 

Conduct body composition assessments (body fat, skeletal muscle, BMR, segments). 

Explain results clearly to members, integrating data into individual wellness plans. 

Collaboration & Member Engagement 

Partner with YMCA personal trainers to support integrated fitness + nutrition plans. 

Build strong community relationships and support a welcoming wellness environment, consistent with YMCA’s member oriented culture. 

Recordkeeping & Professional Standards 

Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and progress.  

Stay updated on current nutrition science research and GLP1 best practices.  

Actively supports the organization’s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work. Recommend and helps implement strategies and initiatives that advance the organization’s diversity goals.   

Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA. 

Accurately track client sessions by following YMCA protocol. 

Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field (consistent with national standards for dietitians/nutritionists).  

Certification as a CNS, RD/RDN, or similar accredited credential. 

Experience providing 1on1 nutrition counseling. 

Familiarity with GLP1 medications and their nutritional considerations.  

Experience operating an InBody or similar body composition analyzer. 

Ability to travel (if needed) between the Church St and Wells Ave branches.  

Committing to support and further our equity-centered work as an organization.  Actively supports all DEIB efforts. 

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.  

Certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED requested within 30 days of hire. 

Reliable and dependable. 

YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire preferred. 

Prior experience in a YMCA, community wellness center, or fitness facility preferred 

Previous training in behavior change coaching, motivational interviewing, or health education preferred. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to several hours at a time)  

Ability to sit for prolonged periods while completing documentation and counseling  

Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs occasionally (e.g., food items, equipment, supplies)  

Ability to use hands and fingers for writing records communication and computer work  

Ability to reach, bend, and set up materials for classes or demonstrations  

Ability to move between multiple areas of the facility throughout the day  

Ability to communicate clearly (speaking and hearing) in both group and individual settings
