Job Description

$19.68 per hour, 8 hours per day with a 260 day calendar 


 


Position Schedule: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM


 


 


POSITION SUMMARY: Trains new, and retrains established, custodial staff to satisfactorily perform custodial functions to Rockwood School District’s standards, promoting adherence to district wide cleaning program.  


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  



  • Effectively train custodial employees to a prescribed program of study.  Retrain in any areas deemed deficient.

  • Assists in performing building cleanliness inspections.  Help create and maintain a program that will support continuous improvement raising the cleanliness baseline through consistent, effective and efficient labor practices and equipment usage.

  • Supervises work of custodians within assigned areas, instructing and assisting custodians in the performance of their duties.

  • Delivery of equipment and supplies as requested.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze, communicate, coordinate, evaluate and use interpersonal skills. 

  • Assist in assigning, coordinating, and supervising the custodial work performed by custodial personnel.

  • Confers with Custodial Supervisors regarding the operations of the training center and facilities.

  • Assist in the development of standards of performance and guidelines pertaining to a variety of school facilities.

  • Assist the Custodial Supervisors with development and implementation of equipment standards, cleaning standards, supply/product standards, and in-service training.  Provide training, coaching and mentoring for custodial staff related to scheduling, computer usage, work order data entry, etc.

  • Will assess performance and assist with recommendations for certification; recertification if applicable.

  • Climbing ladders; up to six (6) feet.

  • Responsible for maintaining and monitoring the safety and security of the building.

  • Assigned to cover custodian II positions on occasion.

  • Remove snow and ice from exterior walks as required, ensuring safe pathways to school.

  • Legally and safely operate a District motor vehicle as needed.



  • Performs other duties as assigned. 


ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  



  • Ability to perform activities related to the cleanliness of each assigned building.

  • Ability to provide direct supervision to other employees to ensure they are meeting their assigned goals.

  • Ability to problem-solve.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.  

  • Ability to recognize common safety and health hazards.

  • Ability to stoop, bend, twist, lift and move equipment and supplies, including lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion and 20-30 pounds repetitively.

  • Knowledge of principles of planning, supervision, team building, and leadership.

  • Ability to climb ladders as needed; up to six (6) feet.

  • Ability to wear job-appropriate personal protective equipment.


BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  



  • High School diploma or GED certificate.

  • One to three years of custodial experience.

  • Prior training experience preferred. 

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

  • Operating knowledge of work order system, i.e. FS Direct system, time clock system i.e. Kronos, MSWord and Excel required within 6 months of entering position.

  • Basic math, writing, communication and computer skills.

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, e-mail, etc.

  • Propane burnisher, propane stripper, tail vacuum, backpack vacuum, upright vacuum, carpet extractor, restroom machines (Kaivac, Compass), snow blower, tractor, carpet spotter machines, flat cart, two wheeler, trash truck, auto scrubber, ride on scrubber, pallet jack, power washer, mop and mop bucket, curb sweeper, gas/electric blower, side by side, salt spreader, wet/dry vacuum, hand power tools, dust mop, pan and broom, spray bottles, micro fiber, hand tools, snow shovel, putty knife, razor blades, pump sprayer, micro duster, toilet brush, ladders, chemical dispenser, computer, fax machine, copy machine, scissor lift, motor vehicle.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:  



  • With the district building(s).

  • Outside of school buildings, including in inclement weather.

  • Work performed primarily during evening shift.  Shifts vary as required.

  • Must be flexible, able to report to various school sites and when necessary, various shifts or days of the week, including weekends.

  • This position is very active and requires the physical ability to enable standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, sitting, talking, hearing, twisting, reaching, and lifting throughout each shift.
