Job Description

 

SUMMARY

This management position develops and maintains transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency. Selects appropriate delivery methods to minimize delivery costs and maximize customer satisfaction. Analyzes, handles, and reviews loss and damage claims caused by incidents/accidents. Manages transportation related activities conducted with the Mays Chemical Company public/private fleet such that customer requirements are met while maximizing utilization and optimization of fleet assets.

  • Practices the principles of food safety, quality, and continuous improvement under the GFSI guidelines.
  • Manages the company private fleet maintenance program including contract management and vehicle maintenance record administration.
  • Ensures public/private fleet operations operate within established budgets and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains all permits, registrations, and licenses required by DOT, FMCSA, and applicable state regulations.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of risk management and business contingency programs.
  • Designs and maintains company security programs and procedures regarding fleet as required by DOT and FMCSA.
  • Regularly performs security checks on private/public fleet while stored on company premises.
  • Works closely with TMS Partners/Logistics function to establish freight lanes that can be serviced economically by the MCC Private Fleet.
  • Establishes schedules for drivers and ensures that they have appropriate customer instructions.
  • Supervises truck drivers operating private fleet vehicles, including conducting DOT-required security/background checks and driver qualification training.
  • Serves as chief liaison with local, state, and federal law-enforcement agencies.
  • Establishes transportation operations metrics and implements continuous improvements to ensure high levels of quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Generates transportation activity reports daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually as required by DOT regulations.
  • Conducts analysis of TMS logistics systems and fleet operations metrics to recommend shrinkage or growth to meet customer requirements and anticipated business needs.
  • Monitors regulatory activity affecting transportation activities.
  • Backup to the Vice President of Supply Chain Management / SQF Practitioner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises employees within the Traffic/Fleet department(s).

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university in Business or related field preferred, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver license with a good driving record.
