Job Description

Division: Goodwill Excel Center - Midsouth

Department: College & Career Readiness/WFD

Position Title: Student Success Seminar Instructor

Reports To: Academic and Instruction Coordinator

FLSA Status: Salaried/Exempt – 10 Month

Environment: Classroom


Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Workforce Development Department and the leadership of the Academic and Instruction Coordinator, the Student Success Instructor is responsible for facilitating standards-aligned Math and Reading instruction that builds foundational skills and prepares adult-learners for academic success. The Student Success Instructor combines Reading and Math remediation with creative and robust instruction to support new and returning Excel Center students as they transition back to school. Additional duties may be assigned by the Supervisor.


Role and Responsibilities:


 Re-engages students' academic journey, fostering self-confidence and assurance that the program is tailored to meet the unique needs of adult learners.

 Develops and delivers engaging, standards-aligned Math and Reading instruction that builds foundational skills and prepares students for program success.

 Tracks and analyze pre- and post-diagnostic assessment data, including scores and performance trends, to monitor student progress and inform instructional planning and targeted interventions.

 Assists and supports the organization and facilitation of Barrier Buster, CCR events (which include but are not limited to certification enrollment, college signing, college fairs, tours, scholarships, etc. to current students, teachers, and alumni).

 Maintain relationships and gather program feedback to support ongoing program initiatives.

 Identify new sources of remediation, employability and occupational skills related opportunities.

 Supports with the monitoring and tracking of student performance and placement opportunities for reporting purposes.

 Attends and participates in school events, tours, workshops, conferences, professional development and meetings.

 Support and presenter of New Student Orientation (as needed).

 Additional responsibilities assigned by Department Leader.


Support Functions/KPIs:


This position works closely with academics and workforce development with development of curriculum and lesson planning to support successful student-centered program to track and monitor pre and post diagnostic testing and academic performance.

The Student Success Instructor will support tracking and monitoring progress toward course progression, established remediation goals and key course deliverables:


 Acclimation: Assists students with acclimating to the Excel Center accelerated model. Completing tasks such as setting up Google Classroom, understanding school policies and procedures.


 Academic Preparation: Introduces academic expectations, Reading and Math remediation support, along with pre/post diagnostic testing.


 Diagnostic Testing: Tracks and analyzes pre- and post-diagnostic assessment data, including scores and performance trends, to monitor student progress and inform instructional planning and targeted interventions.


 Relationship Building: Encourages connections with Life Coaches, course instructors and peers to foster a sense of belonging within the Excel Center community.


 Support Services: Provides awareness of available supports, including but not limited to remediation, academic coaching, social, emotional and career planning.


 Extended Orientation: Supports new students in becoming familiar with the school environment, facilities, and available Excel Center services, programs and resources.


 Student Retention: Supports proactive strategies to support student retention, including monitoring attendance and performance, identifying at-risk students, and providing timely interventions.


Interpersonal Relations:


Must demonstrate an affinity and enthusiasm for Goodwill Excel Center mission of helping individuals of various backgrounds, cultures, educational and socio-economic statuses.

 Demonstrates professionalism and serves as an engaging, direct representative of the Excel Center’s model and culture

 Maintains effective oral and written communication with internal and external business partners, employers, team leaders and students.

 Collaborates with and maintains strong relationships with internal departmental teams, team leaders, and school administration.

 Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy of data tracking, monitoring, and entering information.

 Ability to work independently and manage time in a high-energy work environment.

 Ability to analyze data for informed decision-making initiative and self-direction.

 Ensures compliance with established school policies, WFD guides, training, and applicable labor laws.

 Strong communicator at a variety of levels, demonstrating effective presentation skills.

 The ability to effectively support individuals with various disabilities, personalities, and cultural backgrounds; experience working with at-risk and adult students.


Education/Qualifications:


 Bachelor’s Degree in related field (required).

 Active or eligible to obtain an active Tennessee teaching license (recommended).

 Prior experience in remediation, academic intervention and expectational learning models.

 Minimum of three years of experience in education, workforce development, human resources, or a related field.

 Data tracking, monitoring and reporting capabilities.

 Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Office products, browsers, database mining and management

 Excellent communication skills (listening, written and verbal); mature interpersonal relationship skills.

 Project management skills, ability to handle multiple assignments, projects, and priorities

 Bilingual language skills are a plus.
