    Job Description
    Job Summary:   The Substitute Teacher will help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women in the absence of the regular teacher.
     
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • NYS Teaching Certification*
    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • NYSED Fingerprint Clearance
    • Experience working with children in a classroom or comparable setting
    *Consideration may be given to candidates who are working toward certification in accordance with NYSED guidelines.

    Primary Activities
    • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and to communicate these objectives to students.
    • Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school.
    • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
    • Teaches lesson plan as outlined by the absent teacher.
    • Performs all extra duties for the absent teacher as required by the building principal.
    • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
    • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
    • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
    • Prepares for classes assigned and takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation, pertaining to teacher and students.
    • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
    • Remains at school during the entire school day unless excused by the principal or the designated representative.
    • Maintains a professional appearance as an example for students.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and incorporates technology in daily tasks, as required.
    Physical Demands
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
    • is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
    • Is regularly required to climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to reach above the head and reach forward.
    • Is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and to talk and hear.
    • At times, required to work at a height of 20’ or more off the ground in order to perform job duties.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or push up to 75 pounds.
    • Must have specific vision abilities for close vision, distance vision, depth perception and tell the difference between colors
     
     
    Work Environment
    •  The noise level in the work environment is typical for a school environment.
    • The manager continuously interacts with the public and other staff and frequently meets multiple demands from several people.
    • Work generally performed indoors.
     

    Hours:

     
    • Start time between 7:20 AM and 8:30 AM depending on location of assignment.  The work day is 7 hours in length.
     

    Salary: $130 per day
