Position Summary
The Summer Program Teacher will provide culturally responsive academic instruction and enrichment for Native American students in grades 1–7. The teacher will create a supportive and engaging learning environment that strengthens literacy, math, and cultural identity while supporting the diverse tribal backgrounds of students. This position emphasizes relationship-building, culturally relevant teaching practices, and collaboration with program staff and families.
Key Responsibilities
● Plan and deliver engaging lessons in literacy, math, and enrichment activities appropriate for students in grades 1–7.
● Integrate Native American perspectives, cultural knowledge, and community values into instruction when appropriate.
● Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that honors students’ cultural identities.
● Support students’ academic growth through small group instruction, hands-on learning, and differentiated teaching strategies.
● Collaborate with program staff to implement cultural activities, guest presentations, and community-based learning opportunities.
● Monitor and document student participation and progress throughout the summer program.
● Maintain positive communication with students, families, and program coordinators.
● Follow district policies, safety procedures, and program expectations.
● Participate in program planning meetings and professional collaboration.
Required Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
● Current or eligible for New Mexico Public Education Department teaching licensure (preferred).
● Experience working with elementary or middle school students (grades 1–7).
● Demonstrated knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices.
● Experience working with Native American or Indigenous youth and communities.
● Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively with staff and community partners.
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience working in Native American education programs or tribal communities.
● Knowledge of tribal cultures, traditions, and histories represented in Northern New Mexico.
● Experience integrating culturally relevant curriculum and hands-on learning activities.
● Background in literacy intervention, project-based learning, or enrichment programming.
