Responsibilities
- Clinical Care & Patient Management
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to oncology patients across the continuum (diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care)
- Perform patient assessments, symptom management, and triage in a high-acuity outpatient oncology setting
- Administer and monitor systemic therapies, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted agents
- Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans, symptom management, and supportive care
- Coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams including medical oncology, radiation oncology, pharmacy, and supportive services
- Clinic Operations & Coordination
- Support daily clinic flow, patient throughput, and care coordination to ensure efficient operations
- Collaborate with physicians and leadership to optimize scheduling, staffing, and patient access
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff and medical assistants
- Participate in development and standardization of clinical workflows and protocols
- EPRO (Electronic Patient-Reported Outcomes) Oversight
- Lead implementation, optimization, and ongoing management of ePRO programs within the cancer center
- Monitor patient-reported symptom data and ensure timely clinical intervention
- Collaborate with IT, informatics, and clinical leadership to enhance ePRO integration within the EMR
- Analyze ePRO data trends to improve symptom management pathways and patient outcomes
- Educate staff and patients on the use and value of ePRO tools
- Quality Improvement & Performance Initiatives
- Lead and participate in quality improvement (QI) projects aligned with oncology best practices and regulatory standards
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including symptom control, patient satisfaction, and treatment adherence
- Support compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., CoC, ASCO QOPI)
- Utilize data analytics to identify gaps in care and implement evidence-based improvements
- Present QI outcomes and recommendations to leadership and clinical teams
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between clinical staff, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Support onboarding, education, and competency development of clinical staff
- Participate in committees, task forces, and strategic initiatives within the cancer center
- Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
- Related duties as assigned
Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited institution and 5 years professional nursing experience Required
- and 3 years professional nursing experience in oncology Required
- Master's Degree in nursing from an accredited institution Preferred
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama Upon Hire Required and
- OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification within 1 Year
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
