Position Duties
STREETS/UTILITIES:
- Performs various painting tasks using brush/roller, including picnic tables, fire hydrants, buildings, and hockey rinks as assigned.
- Assist Utility/Public Service workers in maintenance of the City's systems, including gate valves and hydrants
- Assists with the construction of concrete curb and gutter and crosswalk, curb and parking stall painting using and/or operating one-ton pickups, air compressors, jackhammers, and airless spray painters.
- Assists with street sign and guard rail installation.
- Assists with playground construction, including equipment installation and play area construction as assigned.
- Assists with sanitary and storm sewer maintenance, including jetting, rodding, and flushing.
- Assists with custodial and cleaning at various City facilities.
- Mow and weed whip around at job sites.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WASTE CAMPUS:
- Ride-along with City employees helping with refuse and recycling collection tasks on regular scheduled collection routes. Includes pulling dumpsters.
- Operate the skid steer to help load garbage.
- Help with Machine maintenance/repair, including greasing and oiling.
- Performs various painting tasks.
- Assists with custodial and cleaning duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**Positions start at $14.50 per hour. Seasonals at the waste campus start at $15.50 per hour.
***Employees who work at least 300 hours in a season may receive up to a $100.00 performance bonus for satisfactory work, working at least 350 hours in a season may receive up to a $150 bonus, and those working at least 400 hours in a season may receive up to a $200.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age
Desired Qualifications: Public contact experience. Certification in First Aid is desired. Experience in counter sales and related work experience is also desired.
Other Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable ability to operate light-duty pickup trucks, mowers, Cushman Scooters and park maintenance vehicles.
- Considerable ability to practice teamwork and to add value to City operations consistent with department policies and the City Council Strategic Plan.
- Considerable ability to perform physical labor for long periods of time including pushing, pulling, crouching, bending, standing, walking, or sitting sometimes using repetitive movements to perform the work.
- Considerable ability to see utilizing color vision to safely operate machinery, vehicles and equipment, to avoid pedestrians, animals and vehicles in traffic and to use large motor skills while performing the work.
- Considerable ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions year around.
- Considerable ability to work and communicate effectively and courteously with City staff and the general public.
- Working ability to work flexible hours and schedules as assigned including evenings and weekends.
- Working ability to work with exposure to loud noises from operating equipment and around unpleasant fumes and hazardous chemicals.
- Working ability to operate equipment in a safe manner.
- Working ability to work without direct supervision and in a team atmosphere.
- Working ability to use telephones, radios, personal computers, and miscellaneous office equipment.
