Summary
Camp Counselors are responsible for the supervision and care of their assigned group ranging in levels of support from 1:1 to 1:3. This position entails working with children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities along with mental illness. This position will be working outdoors, involved with water activities, daily documentation, assisting with activities of daily living with the campers, etc. Camp Counselors report directly to the Camp Coordinator. This is a seasonal position running from June through August and working Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Licensing & Contractual Compliance
- Promote and ensure program compliance with agency policies, state and federal regulations, local monitoring standards, and contractual requirements.
- Report all violations of agency policies, state or federal regulations, local monitoring standards, or contractual requirements immediately to administrative staff.
- Act in accordance with all agency policies, state and federal regulations, local monitoring standards, and contractual requirements.
Personal Supports
- Ensure that the wishes, hopes, dreams, and fears of each person supported are respected, and that their rights are honored without exception.
- Ensure at all times the health and safety of each person supported; apply emergency procedures as necessary; facilitate development of strategies that maximize the health and safety of each person served by the program.
- Provide direct assistance to each person supported in all areas of daily living skills, including (but not limited to) social and emotional support, communication assistance, crisis intervention, and personal care.
- Assist each person in exploring, obtaining, and maintaining participation in activities, including the acclimation of each person to the surrounding community during field trips.
- Supervise / monitor / implement activities / strategies / interventions for the individual as they relate to the goals and interventions identified in the treatment plan / support plan.
- Participate and communicate regularly with team members (Site managers, Camp Administrators, support staff, Program Coordinators, Program Director, family members, advocates, casemanagers, therapists, physicians, and person supported).
- Follow through with commitment to schedule established with Team Leaders, Program Coordinator and / or Program Director.
Program and Staff Management
- Consult with the support team on a weekly basis.
- Attend training as required.
- Document daily activities, interventions and outcomes on progress records.
- Submit required paperwork daily to the Team Leaders.
- Communicate professional needs for individualized support/training as necessary
Financial Management
- Provide full documentation of all expenditures made on behalf of the agency and / or each person supported.
- Report immediately any discrepancies related to use of personal or agency funds.
Agency Mission
- Ensure consistency with agency mission through implementation of program procedures and operations.
- Act as team member engaged in the support of one or more individuals served by the agency and in the supervision of one or more support staff.
- Demonstrate professionalism toward people served and other associates both within and outside of the agency.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma plus direct service experience or college credits from an accredited college / university in a related field (or equivalent combination), over eighteen (18) years of age, Act 33 / 34 Clearances, valid driver’s license and transportation.
