Toms River Endoscopy Center is an ambulatory surgical center conveniently located on Lakehurst Road in Toms River, New Jersey. The center specializes in providing high-quality endoscopy services to adult patients in an outpatient setting. Position Summary

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and coordination of nursing services to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and cost-effective patient care. The DON works collaboratively with center leadership, physicians, and clinical staff to support operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and superior patient outcomes.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Communication

  • Collaborates with center leadership to provide oversight and direction of nursing care and patient scheduling in accordance with center policies, procedures, and objectives
  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions while maintaining professional relationships with physicians, leaders, staff, vendors, patients, and the general public
  • Serves as a clinical leader and resource to nursing and support teams

Patient Care & Clinical Oversight

  • Analyzes and evaluates nursing care practices to improve quality outcomes
  • Coordinates patient care activities with surgeons and anesthesia providers to ensure continuity of care
  • Participates in patient care as needed and oversees clinical areas to ensure patient needs are met
  • Enforces nursing practice standards, licensure requirements, and accreditation regulations
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team
  • Reviews, revises, and implements patient care policies and procedures as needed
  • Responds to emergency situations and ensures staff competency during emergencies
  • Oversees nursing activities during emergencies to ensure patient safety
  • Manages patient and staff flow to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated and surgical site infections
  • Reviews and analyzes clinical documentation for compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations

Staffing & Personnel Management

  • Monitors FTE utilization and recommends cost-effective staffing and scheduling practices
  • Oversees orientation programs for new clinical employees
  • Recommends and assists with continuing education and professional development for staff
  • Prepares and adjusts clinical staffing schedules based on daily operational needs, staff skill level, holidays, and vacations
  • Ensures appropriate cross-training across clinical areas
  • Reviews time and attendance records as required
  • Observes, evaluates, and supports performance improvement of all clinical personnel
  • Interprets and enforces center policies and procedures
  • Works with leadership to address staff concerns, suggestions, and performance improvement opportunities

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Promotes adherence to safety policies and best practices
  • Partners with center leadership and the Safety Officer to implement regulatory standards and workplace safety initiatives
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and efficient clinical environment
  • Oversees care, cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and maintenance of clinical instruments and equipment
  • Identifies and reports deficiencies in supplies, equipment, and contracted services
  • Submits required documentation to risk management, as applicable
  • Ensures OSHA compliance and availability of required safety supplies

Financial & Materials Management

  • Promotes efficient use of center resources and cost containment
  • Evaluates clinical needs and makes purchasing recommendations within budget guidelines
  • Assists in the development and implementation of operating and capital budgets, as required

General Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in center committees, meetings, in-services, and staff development activities
  • Contributes input toward short- and long-term operational and clinical goals
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Active RN license in the state of New Jersey
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing leadership experience (ASC, endoscopy, perioperative, or acute care preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory, accreditation, and professional nursing standards
  • Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced outpatient surgical environment
