Job Title: Deli/Bakery Clerk

POSITION SUMMARY
Smile, greet and be courteous to customers, work with management and all other associates to provide a high level of customer service, be punctual, work your schedule, conduct yourself at all times in a professional business manner, assist in any way possible and as directed to provide for a clean and safe store environment, other duties as assigned. Maintain and operate the Bakery/Deli Department in an efficient manner within Company Policy. Ensure that the shift contributes to the financial best interests of the store.
- Greet customers as they arrive and provide them with information on daily specials.
- Provide customers with pricing information of deli and bakery products.
- Prepare food items in accordance to preset recipes.
- Package bakery and deli items and ensure appropriate rotating.
- Assist bakery area in baking cakes and making pastries, sandwiches and pizzas.
- Assist in deli area with cooking, filling warming counter and waiting on customers.
- Put prepared goods in the oven and remove them after the designated time.
- Ensure the bakery items are ready in a timely manner.
- Prepare and price products and display them properly.
- Maintain clean equipment such as fryers, ovens, counters, coffee area, including tables and chairs, deli case, floors and refrigerators.
- Operate equipment and tools as trained.
- Keep and clean an orderly work space.
- Operate cash register to ring sales.
- Take customers’ orders and ensure that they are completed in a timely, efficient manner.
- Label and stock bakery and deli merchandise.
- Clean shelves, counters, floors and storage areas on a regular basis.
- All other duties that are assigned.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Physical Demands are standing, walking, reaching, bending, twisting, and ability to carry/lift 40 lbs.
- Repetitive Action are slicing meats and cheeses, prepare/wrap cheeses, sandwiches and other deli products, stock display case and rotate product, unload deli delivery, operate and clean all deli equipment and tools.
- Safety Risk Factors are twisting, slippery floor surfaces, cluttered floor surfaces, and hot equipment surfaces.
- Providing responsive, exceptional service to bakery/deli counter customers by answering questions, making recommendations, and responding to requests.
- Recommending, slicing, weighing, packaging, and pricing meats and cheeses.
- Preparing special orders and party trays.
- Updating displays, cases, and other customer-facing areas to ensure new items and promotions are showcased.
- Ensuring that work areas are ready to service customers by cleaning surfaces, equipment, and floors, removing trash, and confirming that tools are in working order.
- Following all food safety and sanitation procedures established by the company and other regulatory agencies.
- Cooperating with others to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Confirming that all displays, products, and services comply with company standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements:
- Deli counter or cake and food preparation experience may be required.
- Ability to lift heavy items, ranging from 25 to 50 lbs, and operate equipment, such as meat and cheese slicers, scales, cash registers, etc.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and math skills.
- Ability to comprehend and follow all company procedures and regulations regarding food handling and sanitation.
- A courteous and efficient approach to handling customer requests, questions, and complaints.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Good interpersonal skills required.
- Must be reliable (good attendance and punctuality), organized, flexible, and posses excellent time management skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy required.
- Must possess a high level of integrity, and ability to maintain confidential information.
