Job Description

Illuminate Rx is redefining pharmacy benefits management by delivering a more transparent, flexible, and accountable model for clients, advisors, and members. As Illuminate Rx continues to grow, we are seeking a Director of Strategy and Operations to help design, operationalize, and scale a differentiated operating model that supports our next phase of PBM growth.

The Director of Strategy and Operations translates Illuminate Rx’s strategic priorities into repeatable, scalable, and well-governed operating capabilities. This role defines how Illuminate Rx is sold, implemented, operated, supported, measured, and continuously improved across the enterprise.

This is a high-impact role for a builder and operator who can move comfortably between strategy and execution, bring structure to ambiguity, influence without authority, and drive disciplined execution in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.

This role partners closely with Sales, Account Management, Clinical, Operations, Implementation, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Product, Analytics, and external solution partners to ensure Illuminate Rx delivers a consistent and meaningfully differentiated experience.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Operating Model Strategy and Execution
    • Provides strategic support and management of the end-to-end Illuminate Rx operating model, ensuring it is clearly defined, documented, maintained, and scalable.
    • Translate strategy into practical workflows, governance structures, decision rights, and operating capabilities.
    • Define how Illuminate Rx is sold, implemented, operated, governed, measured, and supported across internal teams and partners.
    • Identify operating model gaps, handoff risks, inefficiencies, and decision-making bottlenecks and lead efforts to resolve them.
  • Growth Enablement and Commercial Readiness
    • Partner with Sales and Account Management to ensure the operating model supports growth, client expansion, and broker engagement.
    • Develop scalable tools, playbooks, and processes that enable teams to explain, sell, implement, and manage Illuminate Rx.
    • Translate complex operating concepts into clear, practical guidance for client-facing and internal teams.
  • Solution Partner Strategy and Governance
    • Lead operating model design for external solution partner integrations and service delivery.
    • Define partner onboarding standards, operating expectations, escalation paths, performance metrics, and governance routines.
    • Partner with Legal, Finance, Compliance, and Operations to ensure partner relationships are scalable and well-controlled.
    • Monitor partner performance and drive continuous improvement across service, cost, and client experience.
  • Policies, Controls, and Enablement
    • Develop and maintain Illuminate Rx policies, procedures, playbooks, and operating documentation.
    • Clarify roles, responsibilities, decision rights, escalation paths, and control expectations.
    • Support a strong control environment by partnering with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Finance.
    • Serve as an internal subject matter expert on how Illuminate Rx works and how teams should support it.
  • Performance Management and Continuous Improvement
    • Define and track key performance indicators for the Illuminate Rx operating model.
    • Use data and operational insights to identify risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
    • Lead initiatives to improve scalability, execution quality, efficiency, and client experience.
    • Scale what works, eliminate what does not, and continuously strengthen Illuminate Rx’s differentiation.

Required Skills / Experience:

  • Commercialization experience in pharmacy benefits, PBM, healthcare administration, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 or more years of experience in strategy, operations, healthcare, pharmacy benefits, consulting, or business transformation.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or improving operating models and cross-functional business processes.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare, pharmacy benefits, PBM operations, or adjacent healthcare services.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from concept through execution. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to break down ambiguity into clear decisions and actions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong execution discipline and comfort managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, build trust, and drive accountability across teams.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in PBM, specialty pharmacy, health plan operations, employer benefits, or healthcare consulting.
  • Experience working in a high-growth or startup-like environment where building from scratch and scaling quickly are required.
  • Experience with solution partner onboarding, vendor governance, service level management, and performance reporting.
  • Ability to context shift frequently across strategy, execution, commercial, and operational workstreams without losing effectiveness.
  • Strong cultural fit with a team that values clarity, fast decision-making, intellectual honesty, and knowing when the right meme can disarm tension, engage a team, or make a hard meeting more human.
