Outreach Coordinator - European Union Center

The European Union Center in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is searching for an Outreach Coordinator to develop, implement, and assess the European Union Center (EUC) programming and public events. The incumbent will represent the EUC, a Jean Monnet Center of Excellence (JMCE), to external and internal constituencies and
fulfill the JMCE grant's outreach work. The coordinator will develop and provide programs for diverse constituents, including University of Illinois faculty and students, K-16 educators and students, the business community, media, government officials, and the general public. The coordinator will develop new programs and leverage existing programs with high school students to serve as recruitment tools for the EUC academic programs and increase the EUC profile through additional recruiting
opportunities. The coordinator will also serve as the EUC internship coordinator and develop and administer an internship program for EUC students.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage EUC’s campus, K-16, and community programs and projects under the direction of the Associate Director, with primary responsibility for logistical planning and coordinating speakers, conferences, workshops, and public events to fulfill the EUC mission and the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence grant’s scope of work. Travel domestically and internationally to meet with constituents and attend events.
  • Recruit students at high school and university events and develop new recruiting avenues. Develop and administer the EUC internship program. Travel to recruiting events. Travel to meet with internship partners. Lead student career exploration trips.
  • Manage EUC's communication channels, including listservs, electronic newsletters, websites, and social media, primarily targeted to constituencies and partners on campus, and at local, national, and international levels. Develop a recruitment communication plan. Collaborate with the IGI Communications Coordinator to ensure all communications adhere to college and university brand guidelines and meet accessibility standards
  • Serve as EUC fellowship coordinator. Coordinate application submissions, application reviews, and award notifications.
  • Initiate new programs and events for EUC's internal and external constituencies and participate in long-range planning and goal-setting activities for the Center.
  • Develop and organize events and curriculum development programs for K-16 educators and students.
  • Assist the Associate Director with budgeting, proposals and reporting to funding agencies, and with other administrative tasks of the Center.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff across Illinois Global Institute (IGI) to design, coordinate, and implement joint outreach activities.
  • Other duties as assigned to further the mission of the Center.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree.

A total of one (1) year (12 months) of education, training, and/or work experience in communications, outreach, or program development in a higher education, K through 12 education or teaching, nonprofit/NGO, or international organization settings

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in humanities, social sciences, or in a field related to the position.


Work experience in communications, outreach, or program development within higher education, K–12, nonprofit/NGO, or international organization settings, with an emphasis on European studies, international work, living or study experience.


Student recruiting experience at the college level.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft office and website management
  • Proven organizational talents, with attention to detail required to organize high-profile events
  • Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and work independently with minimum guidance
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for the position is $50,000 to $53,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. Hybrid work options may be available for this position after an initial on-site training period, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus as needed per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
