    Specific Job Details:

    Middle School Band Director who is responsible for developing the musical talents of students in grades 5-7.  Band students range in ability from entry level to advanced.  The position may also include teaching classes in General Music.  The position requirements include both in- and out-of-school time commitments, such as public performances, Honors Festivals, Auditions, and Fundraising Events.  An Ideal candidate would have a well-rounded background, and would be willing to direct or assist with extracurricular musical activities.

    Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' understanding and appreciation of the art of music, including performing a wide range of musical genres, periods, and styles. To identify, promote and develop each student's talents in vocal musical expression.

    Brief Job Duties:
    The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:

    1. Develops and administers music education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
    2. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
    3. Develops a balanced music program and lessons to organize class time so that students have adequate time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction.
    4. Conducts ongoing assessment of student musical learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
    5. Utilizes a varied repertoire of music literature that spans time periods, genres, and styles, as appropriate.
    6. Plans, coordinates, and directs rehearsals for musical programs and performances outside the classroom. 

    Full Job Description  

    Certification/License:
    Certification from the Maine Department of Education
    Criminal History Record Check (CHRC), which includes Fingerprints on file with the Maine Department of Education 

    Education: 
    Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
    A Master's Degree in a related field is preferred.

    Experience: 
    Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is preferred but not required.
