Manager of Network Architecture

As the Manager of Network Architecture, you will lead our network architecture team – concentrating on transport, PON, active ethernet, service router, and core layers of the network.  As the leader of this team, you will oversee and be responsible for the overall physical and logical architecture of the network, documentation of standards, cost analysis, vendor interaction, and assisting with logical implementation in the production network as required. This role will also work closely with the design and implementation teams on network upgrades, augments, and new architectures across the metro and core networks.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead a team that develop and evolve published network architecture guidelines for the transport, OLT/Active Ethernet Access, service router, and core router layers of the network
    • Work with members of Metronet, Vendor partners, and Industry experts to identify network best practices to implement in the Metronet network
    • Trigger Network Automation team to create and test automation if relevant
    • Document and share technical guidelines using Sharepoint, Confluence, and any future platform selected
    • Send release bulletins to relevant departments
  • Collaborate with Product Development to ensure the network can provide services offered across all customer segments
    • Residential and Commercial Internet (IPv4 and IPv6)
    • Carrier UNI and NNI connections and services
    • Optical Wave Services
    • Border Gateway Protocol
    • Cloud Connect
    • Security Offerings
    • Any future offered network products
  • Collaborate with Network Automation team to drive toward a software defined network and provide network configurations required to implement.
  • Lead a team that guides relevant lab testing for new equipment and existing equipment configuration changes to ensure recommendations function as intended and integrate with existing equipment configurations. This helps eliminate unexpected issues during deployment and speeds time to market.
    • Develop lab test plan
    • Coordinate with lab for physical configuration and testing
  • Guide First Office Applications for new equipment/designs/protocols being implemented in the network
    • This is production testing and soak period observation for lab approved solutions
  • Drive cost effective solutions in the network and standardize those across all existing and new markets
    • Create economic and qualitative business case study data to ensure the solutions architected drive value into the business
  • Track projects and status with clear and concise updates
    • Create tasks and track to completion using project management tools such as Jira
  • Communicate with and effectively triage equipment vendor and services when relevant
  • Travel to Evansville a minimum of twice a year if remote
  • All other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications/networking
  • Previous people leadership experience
  • Physical network topology design experience spanning multiple geographic areas
  • L2 switching/L3 routing knowledge and experience
  • Willingness to work as a team and independently.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Ability to create executive level Power Point presentations
  • Ability to create and analyze financial total cost of ownership
  • Strong understanding of GPON and XGS PON preferred with experience designing these networks
  • Strong understanding of Service Provider Network Security standards and compliance
  • Experience with Nokia, Calix, and Adtran fiber-based access networks
  • Experience with DWDM/ROADM and other optical transport systems
  • Experience with network monitoring software such as Unified Assurance, Solarwinds, Kentik
  • Familiarity with Nokia SAM / NMS / AMS /Altiplano, Adtran AOE, Calix CMS, and MetaSolv

Pay Range - $100,000 - $120,000/yr.
