Role Purpose
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Applied Skills Teacher to lead a classroom focused on functional life skills and academic growth. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing environment where students with moderate to intense disabilities can thrive. You will be responsible for bridging the gap between state standards and individualized student needs through creative, adaptive instruction and strong leadership.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education
- Licensure: Valid State Teaching License with an endorsement in Special Education (specifically Moderate-to-Intense or Severe Disabilities).
- Expertise: Deep understanding of the IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and the IEP process.
- Physical Ability: Ability to assist with student mobility or personal care if required by specific student needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Individualized Instruction: Design and implement IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) that focus on functional literacy, numeracy, social-emotional learning, and daily living skills.
- Adaptive Curriculum: Modify general education curriculum to meet the unique learning levels of each student, utilizing multi-sensory and hands-on approaches.
- Classroom Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of Paraprofessionals to ensure a cohesive, supportive environment for all students.
- Behavioral Support: Develop and execute Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP) and conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) as needed.
- Collaboration: Act as a liaison between families, therapists (OT, PT, SLP), and school administration to ensure a holistic approach to student growth.
- Data Management: Maintain rigorous records of student progress toward IEP goals and compliance with state/federal regulations.
