JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:  Engineer, Supplier Development                          FLSA STATUS:  Exempt

 

REPORTS TO:  Manager, Supply Chain (Supplier Development)

 

                                                                                                                                                           

SUMMARY

This is a professional and technical position involving the primary focus on improvement of supplier quality and performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Under general supervision is responsible for the following major tasks:

  • Responsible for complete, thorough, accurate and timely supplier PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) submissions according to AIAG requirements.
  • Interface with supplier & SPI product development & manufacturing teams to develop supplier statement of work documents (SSOW) that are complete and appropriate.
  • Support Supplier APQP (Advanced Product & Quality Planning) process to develop suppliers and products to the point of successful/on-time PPAP and full production readiness based on Summit and Customer needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring that suppliers to Summit Polymers have the necessary quality systems and resources to meet SPI requirements prior to and after start of production.  Validates supplier systems through on-site validation audits & launch readiness assessments.
  • Problem solve in conjunction with SPI Plant and corporate personnel to resolve supplier quality, delivery and other performance issues. Travel to SPI or Supplier locations as necessary to resolve issues or to attend launch readiness assessments, run@rates, VA/VE initiatives, etc.
  • Collects and analyzes quality data and develops reports as needed for senior management review. Proactively work to improve the performance of suppliers that score poorly on the SPI Supplier performance evaluation system.
  • Assists in the maintenance, approval and development of material specifications, vendor instructions, quality assurance procedures and other related documents to continuously improve our quality systems and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

College graduate, preferably in an engineering curriculum or equivalent training in a quality related environment automotive preferred].  Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Quality engineering role, ASQC certification at CQT level or attain that level after hire. 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Advanced Microsoft Word and Excel skills
  • Extensive knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Prior experience in Manufacturing OperationsExcellent ability to proactively recognize problems and resolve them at all levels of the organization with a positive attitudeAbility to serve as a model of integrity and ethical behaviorAbility to work in an organized, efficient manner with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and follow throughA minimum score of 50 on the Wonderlic Select Assessment (Traditional score of 26 on the cognitive portion).

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position typically does require up to 25% travel.
