Who we are looking for:

ACV Auctions is looking for a Software Engineer to join our MAX Engineering team and work on our SaaS Product, MAX Digital. The position will focus on backend development & maintenance of C#, ASP.NET features & services hosted in AWS and utilizing SQL Server.

The ideal candidate has a strong background and proven track record of architecting and designing enterprise applications in C#, ASP.NET and SQL Server, a penchant for high quality code, and a team minded approach to development.

What you will do:

  • Develop APIs, services, background workers, and MVC web applications using C#, ASP.NET (including modern .NET), and an SQL database (SQL Server preferred; other relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL are also acceptable).
  • Design and build systems that can scale with minimal maintenance, with a focus on reliability and performance.
  • Design, build, and maintain Kafka-based event processing services, including consuming, deserializing, validating, persisting, and reacting to events to drive downstream workflows.
  • Design and implement effective service/product interfaces, including third-party API integrations, and contribute to extensible patterns for adding new integrations.
  • Develop and maintain application data models, including writing and tuning complex SQL queries, optimizing indexes and performance, and designing schemas that reliably support application workflows
  • Collaborate with software and production engineers to design scalable services, plan feature roll-out, and support reliability and performance of our products.
  • Design and develop systems across departments including (but not limited to) data, enterprise applications, and IT.
  • Modify and develop software patterns as needed to solve complex software problems, partnering with senior engineers when appropriate.
  • Be accountable for the performance of products and/or services within a defined area of focus, including participating in diagnosing production issues and driving improvements.
  • Participate in code reviews, develop clear documentation, and help build and maintain test suites for your products.
  • Help identify and prioritize technical debt, and contribute to planning features and iterative improvements.
  • Lead and complete software projects with limited guidance, including breaking down work, communicating progress, and escalating risks early.
  • Participate in team discussions to define requirements for new and current products, including event contracts and data requirements.
  • Provide technical support for applications within the technology portfolio, including AWS-hosted workloads and services.
  • Respond to and troubleshoot complex problems efficiently and effectively, collaborating with others when needed.
  • Act as a mentor for less experienced engineers through pairing and day-to-day support.
  • Handle multiple competing priorities in an agile, fast-paced environment while maintaining delivery quality.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

What you will need:

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • BS degree in Computer Science preferred or a related technical discipline or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience building SaaS web applications using ASP.NET, C# and JavaScript and/or Python (6+ years desirable).
  • Experience maintaining and extending an existing codebase, adapting to pre-existing patterns and tracing the code’s path of execution.
  • Experience integrating 3rd-party APIs, implementing authentication & authorization and developing asynchronous data flows.
  • Experience publishing and consuming Kafka events, including building reliable event-driven workflows and handling common delivery semantics (ordering, retries, idempotency).
  • Experience developing unit and integration-tests.
  • Experience integrating with cloud service (AWS), specifically: SQS, SNS, S3, ECS, EKS, Lambda, ElasticSearch, Docker / Containers.
  • Experience working with Docker and/or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with build & deployment automation (CI/CD).
  • Containerization, orchestration (k8s) & serverless deployment scenarios.
  • SQL programming and data-layer development experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with continuous integration and build tools.
  • Expert in version control systems.
  • Strong software engineering tooling skills and helps drive adoption for new tools and tooling standards.
  • Strong understanding of release, builds, testing and the SDLC.
  • Strong at debugging distributed systems using distributed tracing and other common tools.
  • Top notch communication skills.
  • Experience contributing to system architecture and design discussions (with guidance as needed).
