RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Therapy Assistant carries out delegated patient treatment as prescribed by the Occupational Therapists (OT), Physiotherapists (PT), Speech Language Pathologists (SLP), and audiologist and assists the therapists in patient-related activities.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interprofessional team.
- Prepare and conduct therapy sessions for clients as designated by the OT, PT, SLP.
- Ability to travel to remote Northern communities regularly to implement therapy plans as directed.
- Passionate about working with families/children with developmental disabilities.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physical, cognitive, and language disabilities and how they impact task performance in children’s everyday lives
- Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset.
- Knowledge of culturally safe practice and truth and reconciliation are an asset.
- Knowledge of Jordan’s Principle is an asset.
- Experience working with people with autism or pursuing related degree preferred
- Graduate of a college or university program that covers topics such as language acquisition, kinesiology, life sciences, and/or psychology
- Ability to use Microsoft Word
- Ability to use electronic medical records software to chart on clients, and record documents.
- Experience preferred, but not required. Will train the right candidate.
- Has a working knowledge of disabilities such as learning disabilities, significant cognitive disabilities, autism, and motor disorders and how they may impact communication skills.
- Ability to document student progress and responses effectively to enable the supervising SLP, PT, OT to modify therapy goals, as needed.
- Ability to adapt to rapid change and intervene promptly in crisis/emergency situations.
