Job Description

Join Goodwin’s Global Operations Team, and make a real impact on a global scale. At Goodwin, we work with some of the world’s most successful and innovative investors, entrepreneurs and disruptors in the life sciences, private equity, real estate, technology and financial industries, and where they converge. As part of the Global Operations Team – all business professionals at the firm – you’ll collaborate with colleagues from varied backgrounds and experiences, fostering an environment where cross-functional learning, networking, and collaboration are at the core of what we do.

Here, we’re not just supporting a law firm; we’re partnering with attorneys and clients to deliver cutting-edge solutions in high-stakes litigation and dispute resolution, world-class regulatory compliance and advisory services, and complex transactions. Our commitment to integrity, ingenuity, agility, and ambition drives us, and we’re proud to have been recognised as the “Best Business Team” by The American Lawyer.

This is your opportunity to grow professionally in a dynamic, global environment, surrounded by forward-thinking peers.

This internship will run June 15, 2026 – August 21, 2026, and we will review applications on a rolling basis.

Internship opportunities are available in our Silicon Valley office. This position is primarily in-office, with interns expected to work onsite at the assigned Goodwin office. Please note that relocation or housing assistance is not available for this internship. Applicants should plan accordingly when considering their ability to work onsite.

The AI Legal Intern (“Intern”) is a member of Goodwin’s Global Operations (“GO”) Team working under the direction of the Managing Director, GTM Operations / Managing Director, Enterprise Applications (“the MDs”) and is responsible for directly with Partners and senior GO Team leaders to identify, design, and implement workflow automations and AI-assisted solutions that improve efficiency, quality, and consistency across legal and business operations. The Intern will collaborate closely with partners and senior GO Team leaders to translate often ambiguous workflows into practical, scalable solutions. The Intern will make recommendations to the MDs and will receive guidance and support in evaluating opportunities, prioritizing work, and determining appropriate technical approaches.

What you'll do

  • Engage directly with partners and senior GO Team leaders to understand end-to-end workflows and identify inefficiencies and opportunities for automation.

  • Design, prototype, and implement workflow automations and AI-assisted solutions that reduce manual effort and improve consistency, data quality, and user experience with support and supervision from the MDs.

  • Translate loosely defined problems and qualitative business requirements into clearly scoped technical solutions, with input and approval from the MDs, determine appropriate tools, approaches, and tradeoffs.

  • Evaluate multiple solution paths and with input from the MDs select approaches that balance speed, reliability, governance considerations, and long-term maintainability.

  • Leverage scripting languages, APIs, AI-enabled tools, and low-code/no-code platforms to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.

  • Coordinate testing and document, and iterate solutions based on structured feedback and observed usage patterns.

  • May develop reusable automation patterns, templates, and documentation to support scaling solutions across teams.

  • Collaborate with Technology, Knowledge, Security, and Risk partners to ensure solutions align with firm standards, data handling requirements, and governance expectations.

  • Examples of technologies and tools that may be used in this role include, but are not limited to: Python, JavaScript, REST APIs, Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps), workflow orchestration tools, AI platforms and large language model interfaces (e.g., Claude-style or GPT-style systems), document automation tools, data integration tools, SQL, and modern low-code/no-code platforms. Tool selection will vary based on use case and requirements.

Who you are

  • Working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Demonstrated experience building workflow automations, technical prototypes, or AI-assisted solutions is preferred.

  • Knowledge of workflow automation concepts, system integration, and modern AI-enabled technologies.

  • Ability to translate non-technical, experience-based input into structured technical and operational solutions.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking abilities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively with some supervisory input, in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
