Job Description

Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at Locust Grove Elementary as an Instructional Assistant for Special Education. This full-time position involves supporting students with diverse learning needs in a nurturing and inclusive environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff members to enhance the educational experience and promote the academic, social, and emotional development of students with special needs.

Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to reinforce learning concepts and skills.
- Support students in their daily activities, including classroom tasks, transitions, and social interactions.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, and communicate findings to the teacher.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Facilitate the use of adaptive technology and resources to enhance learning experiences for students.
- Assist with classroom management and maintain a safe and organized learning environment.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education.
- Support students during lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or school administration.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to various classroom situations.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Knowledge of special education practices, including IEPs and behavior management strategies, is a plus.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance student learning.
- Ability to lift and assist students as needed, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Background check and clearance as required by school district policies.
