Head of Operations (Joint Campus Role – South Mountain & Glendale)
Location: Phoenix, AZ (Supporting AMS South Mountain & AMS Glendale Campuses)
Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000 annually (DOE)
Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a high-performing K–8 public charter school network serving Title I communities across Arizona. With more than 20 years of success in education, AMS is committed to operational excellence, equity, and delivering high-quality educational experiences for all scholars.
The Head of Operations serves as the senior operational leader supporting two campuses: AMS South Mountain and AMS Glendale. This role ensures both campuses operate efficiently, remain compliant with network policies and state regulations, and provide a safe and well-organized environment for students, staff, and families.
This position reports to campus leadership and works closely with network operations, finance, and HR teams to ensure alignment and consistency across both sites. The Head of Operations oversees campus operations, facilities management, student enrollment processes, front office functions, compliance, and operational staff management.
This is a high-impact, multi-campus leadership role that requires strong operational expertise, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Campus Operations & Facilities
Oversee daily operations across AMS South Mountain and AMS Glendale, ensuring safe, clean, and well-maintained campus environments.
Coordinate facilities management, repairs, vendor services, and preventative maintenance in partnership with network operations teams.
Maintain accurate records of campus assets, equipment, and inventory across both campuses.
Ensure compliance with safety procedures, including emergency preparedness, drills, and coordination with local authorities.
Enrollment, Student Services & Front Office
Oversee student enrollment processes across both campuses, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with enrollment policies.
Manage front office operations and supervise campus support staff to ensure excellent service for students and families.
Support non-instructional student services including:
Before and after-school programming
Meal program coordination
Student operational needs
Human Resources & Staff Management
Serve as the primary on-site HR partner for both campuses in collaboration with the AMS Human Resources team.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and supervision of campus operations staff.
Partner with school leadership on workforce planning, staffing decisions, and employee relations.
Foster a collaborative and accountable operations team culture.
Financial & Operational Management
Manage campus-level purchasing and ensure adherence to AMS financial policies and procedures.
Monitor operational budgets across both campuses to ensure responsible resource management.
Support operational planning and process improvements that enhance efficiency and scalability.
Coordinate with network teams to support operational initiatives and campus growth.
Qualifications & Competencies
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in operations, management, or leadership roles.
Demonstrated knowledge of operational management principles and best practices.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with high attention to detail.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Ability to manage responsibilities across multiple campuses simultaneously.
Willingness to take a hands-on approach to facilities and operational needs.
Commitment to supporting students in Title I and historically underserved communities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in schools, charter networks, nonprofit organizations, or education systems.
Experience supporting HR functions such as hiring, onboarding, and employee relations.
Familiarity with student information systems and enrollment platforms.
Experience managing cross-functional teams or operations across multiple sites.
