Job Description

Essential Functions for the Position:

Required to perform inspections, repairs, component overhauls and threshold maintenance of gasoline and diesel buses and other automotive equipment and their sub‑components, and perform other related work as assigned by the section supervisor.

 

Special Knowledge & Skills:

  1. Must be general mechanic familiar with all aspects of diesel engine repair, preferably Detroit Diesel/Cummins.
  2. Must have strong electrical repair and troubleshooting skills.
  3. Must have strong mechanical/hydraulic repair and troubleshooting skills.
  4. Must have strong knowledge of current preventive maintenance standards.
  5. Must be well‑versed in current maintenance practices as related to wheelchair‑lift assemblies.
  6. Must be computer literate.

 

Education, Training & Experience:

  1. Must be high school or trade school graduate.
  2. Must have minimum of six (6) years' practical working experience as a Diesel Mechanic in the heavy‑duty vehicle field.

 

Other Job Requirement & Conditions:

  1. Must be familiar with current safety equipment and procedures.
  2. Must be able to preplan daily work schedules.  Must have excellent work performance and attendance record.
  3. Must have demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Must meet or be able to meet all present and future license and certification requirements as may be required by City, State, or Federal governments.
  5. Must have valid Hawaii State driver's license with clean traffic abstract (a current traffic abstract must be presented at time of testing), and must be able to pass State of Hawaii D.O.T. driving requirements for a "Type B" commercial driver's license.
  6. Must pass Company‑administered written and oral examinations.
  7. Must be able to meet standard physical requirements and pass Company‑sponsored medical examination and drug screening.
  8. Must be willing and able to work various shifts, overtime as directed, holiday duty as required, and assume days‑off as assigned.
