Job Description

Chapman Tripp's Auckland Finance Practice  is looking for an intermediate level solicitor to join the highly successful team, with a focus on bonds/financial markets or bank regulation.

You will be working on a range of market-leading financial markets transactions for prestigious corporate, bank and other issuer clients, including sustainable finance, bonds, regulatory capital and derivatives. This is an interesting and challenging role and will suit an enthusiastic self-starter.

We expect that you will already have experience in a busy commercial law firm environment and are looking to take the next step in your career. You will have exposure with corporate finance, preferably including financial markets and advisory work. A strong academic background is a prerequisite.

Our Auckland team has recently advised:

  • InfraRed Capital Partners and Northleaf Capital on their acquisition of, and $1.3bn syndicated acquisition funding for, 80% of Vodafone NZ’s passive mobile tower business;
  • ANZ, BNZ, Westpac, Kiwibank and independent security trustee, New Zealand Guardian Trust, providing c.NZ$600m syndicated project financings to Te Runanga o Toa Rangatira for the purchase of 40+ school properties from the Crown as a party of their Treaty settlements;
  • Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board on the syndicated financing for its NZ$1.15 billion acquisition of 70% of Spark New Zealand’s passive mobile tower business (that business became Connexa Limited, post-acquisition);
  • BNZ, ANZ and Société Générale as Arranger and Joint Lead Managers on the $650m public term securitisation for UDC Finance in 2024. This deal is the largest term securitisation transaction in New Zealand to date. We have advised the Joint Lead Managers for UDC’s public terms deals every year since its inaugural issue in 2021; and
  • Kathmandu Holdings Limited on a three-year AU$300m debt refinancing facility which included, at AU$100m, the largest syndicated sustainability linked loan to be established by a New Zealand corporate.

Chapman Tripp has been named NZ Firm of the Year at the 2024 IFLR Asia-Pacific and KangaNews awards and 2025 Law Firm of the Year at the Asia Pacific Chambers Awards, so you will be working with high performing individuals on satisfying work.

If you are a talented solicitor with 4+ years PQE, wanting a step up or a new challenge, we think we have the best team, work, culture and opportunity to develop your career.

Working with Chapman Tripp:

  • Top-tier clients and work
  • Flexible working style and supportive leadership
  • Inclusive culture and team
  • Ongoing learning and development and formal mentoring programme
  • Comprehensive salary and benefits package including healthcare and annual wellbeing allowance
  • Groups and activities to suit your interests: sports, arts & culture, regular team and firm events for connection
