Job Description

Reports to:  Principal and Teacher(s) Assigned


Wage/Hour Status:  Nonexempt


 


Primary Purpose:


Provide instructional support services. Assist teacher in instruction, preparation, and management of classroom activities. Work under direct supervision of teacher.


 


Qualifications:


Education/Certification:


 


Must have secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED) AND meet one of the following qualifications:



  1. Obtained an Associate’s degree (or higher),

  2. Have completed at least two years of study (minimum of 48 college hours) at an institution of higher education, or

  3. Any assessment approved and/or provided by the State of Texas.


Valid Texas educational aide certificate


 


Special Knowledge/Skills:


Bilingual highly preferred


Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.


Ability to work well with children


Ability to communicate effectively


 


Experience:


Some experience working with children


 


 


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


 


Instructional Support


 




  1. Provide direct instruction of students under direct supervision of teacher.




  2. Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.




  3. Assist in positive behavior support systems.




  4. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.




  5. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.




  6. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment by maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.




  7. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.




  8. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.




Student Management




  1. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.




  2. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.




 Other


 




  1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.




  2. Participate in campus meetings and special events as assigned.




  3. Maintain same ethical standards as certified classroom teachers.




  4. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
