POSITION SUMMARY:



The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is much more than a caregiver. You will work to help people realize their full potential as they integrate and engage in fun, rehabilitative, and/or vocational activities. This position will help create a safe, positive, and encouraging atmosphere to serve people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and low vision and/or blindness.



The DSP must also be able to safely operate a company vehicle, provide transportation to and from destinations, and assist individuals on entry and exit from the vehicle as necessary.



DSP must also be able to safely operate a company van, provide transportation for individuals served to and from destinations, and assist individuals on entry and exit from the vehicle as necessary.



 



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:




  • Get to know the people you serve. You will provide one-on-one and group instruction to help implement goals, service support, and treatments as outlined in the individual’s Person-Centered Support Plan (PCSP). Maintain recordkeeping of PCSP and represent the organization when meeting with case manager, families, and guardians.

  • Serve as a role model for individuals served, displaying a positive attitude while fostering a positive team environment.

  • Transport, accompany, and supervise individuals to and from the program, as well as, out into the community to promote engagement and independence.

  • Comply with all DOT regulations and complete driving logs, checklists, and maintenance records as needed on vehicles utilized for transportation.

  • Complete incident reports for any accident, illness and/or observations of consumer care.

  • Responsible for administration of individual’s served medication and proper documentation of medication dispensed.

  • Provide basic personal hygiene assistance and meal preparation for individuals served.

  • Monitor sustaining activities, projects, and levels of customer service for material handling operations.

  • Set up and complete time studies as requested by Manager or Supervisor.

  • Arrange workstations for production work, including set up of workspace, maintaining supply of raw materials, quality checks on items produced and cleanup of work area.

  • Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned.
