Job Description

Job Purpose

The Manufacturing Engineer Intern is responsible for assisting the manufacturing design process to maximize quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness throughout the manufacturing process. This role requires a hands-on contributor with a desire to learn about effective manufacturing and quality systems at the product level as well as the factory level.

Description of Duties & Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Drive continuous improvement for existing products and processes to achieve higher efficiency, safety, and quality in manufacturing
  • Work with the design team to improve manufacturability of new products
  • Design the workflows, bill of operations, and equipment required to build products
  • Conduct PFMEAs and other design reviews
  • Perform time studies and implement changes to improve throughput
  • Propose, justify, design, and implement automation in production where appropriate
  • Capture metrics to be used in data-driven decision making
  • Assist with prototype and production builds as needed
  • Spec, maintain, repair, and improve manufacturing equipment
  • Help monitor and control quality across all production processes
  • Ensure products and processes adhere to all quality standards and compliance requirements
  • Prepare reports for management and proactively escalate issues

Knowledge & Skills

Required

  • Strong desire to drive improvements that are aligned with company goals
  • Basic understanding of lean manufacturing principles
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and quality metrics, systems, and techniques
  • Ability to build reports and convey information to others
  • Capable of operating hand and power tools

Standout Qualifications

  • Knowledge of lithium battery pack manufacturing and safety
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Understanding of practices specific to electronics manufacturing such as ESD safety
  • Experience with robotics and automation techniques
  • Knowledge of ISO and other relevant standards

  • Pursuing a degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering or similar
