Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Accounting Manager to own and elevate our accounting function. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financials, leading the month-end close process, and building scalable systems that support a growing landscape, retail, & wholesale operation.
This is not a passive reporting role. You will be expected to fix problems, improve processes, and bring clarity to the numbers so ownership can make confident decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Accuracy & Close
- Own and execute monthly close process(target: ≤10 business days)
- Ensure all transactions are accurate, reconciled, and complete
- Review and approve:
- Journal entries
- Bank/credit card reconciliations
- AP/AR activity
- Clean up and maintain integrity of the general ledger
2. Reporting & Insights
- Produce monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
- Identify and explain variances vs prior periods and targets
- Deliver clear, actionable insights to ownership (not just reports)
- Build simple dashboards for:
- Gross margin
- Labor efficiency
- Net profitability
3. Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify inefficiencies and implement better workflows
- Strengthen internal controls and accountability
- Standardize procedures across:
- Job costing
- Expense tracking
- Revenue recognition
- Ensure accounting processes can scale with growth
4. Team Oversight
- Supervise and support existing bookkeeping/accounting staff
- Review work for accuracy and completeness
- Train team members on improved processes and expectations
- Establish accountability and performance standards
5. Budgeting & Cash Visibility
- Assist ownership with budget development and tracking
- Provide cash flow visibility and short-term forecasting
- Help identify risks and opportunities proactively
Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of accounting experience (construction, landscape, or multi-division business preferred)
- Strong understanding of:
- Accrual accounting
- Job costing
- Financial statements
- Experience owning month-end close independently
- High proficiency in accounting QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise and Excel/Google Sheets
Preferred:
- Experience cleaning up or rebuilding accounting systems
- Background in a growing small-to-mid-size business ($5M–$20M revenue)
- CPA or advanced accounting training (not required if experience is strong)

Compensation
- Salary + Performance-based bonus: $70,000 – $90,000, based on experience
- Performance-based bonus tied to:
- Accuracy and timeliness of reporting
