Project Engineer - Transportation | York, PA | Full Time



Buchart Horn is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Engineer – Transportation to support the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects. In this mid- to senior-level role, you’ll take ownership of technical design efforts, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across disciplines to help bring high-impact transportation projects to life.



What You’ll Do:



As a Project Engineer, you’ll lead the engineering components of transportation-focused projects while supporting the overall success of scope, schedule, and budget. This position plays a key role in team leadership, technical development, and client coordination.




  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work on moderate to major transportation projects

  • Perform and review engineering calculations, addressing design complexities such as conflicting requirements and material limitations

  • Supervise and mentor project team members, including designers, technicians, EITs, and junior engineers

  • Support project managers in developing proposals, work plans, budgets, and timelines

  • Participate in client meetings and coordinate with internal and external project teams

  • Conduct site visits and fieldwork to support project development and design validation

  • Develop design plans, profiles, and diagrams using AutoCAD and MicroStation

  • Process shop drawings, respond to RFIs, edit specifications, and prepare cost estimates

  • Perform and oversee QA/QC procedures throughout project phases

  • Maintain technical knowledge of transportation design standards, materials, regulations, and technologies

  • Assist in resolving construction-related engineering challenges

  • Contribute to internal training recommendations based on industry trends and technical advancements

  • Lead or contribute to special technical studies and project reports

  • Ensure compliance with both corporate and client procedures on design and implementation

  • Conduct project review sessions to monitor progress and identify any required corrective actions
