Job Description

Alaris Health at The Atrium, a 113 bed assisted living in Jersey City, New Jersey, seeks a certified medicine aide (CMA). Responsibilities include:

  • administering routine oral, topical and suppository medications as prescribed by the physician
  • reporting any observations concerning resident condition, emergency situations or difficulties with medications to the supervising nurse should they occur
  • maintaining medication supply, assists with ordering of new medications, reorders existing medications and restocks medicine carts as needed
  • maintaining up-to-date knowledge regarding medications being administered and thoroughly researching unknown medications before administering
  • checking all first doses against the physician order sheet
  • preparing, administering and charting oral, topical and suppository medication as prescribed by physician
  • Processes physician’s orders to ensure proper administration
  • ordering medications, cleaning medication treatment carts and stocking and cleaning the medicine room
  • participating in resident treatment and noting and reporting any unusual conditions, emergency situations or difficulties with medication to the on-staff licensed nurse

CMA JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certified medicine aide (CMA) with qualifications of a certified nursing assistant (CAN) with minimum of one year of experience in nursing
  • Completed a New Jersey State approved medicine course with a passing grade
  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering simple treatments and providing related bedside resident care services
  • Familiar with location of various departments and regulations of the Center
  • Good understanding of basic medical asepsis, sterile techniques and universal precautions to avoid infection of residents and self-contamination of equipment and supplies.
  • Work rotating shifts and in different units as needed
  • Ability to positively interact with everyone from residents to government agencies and the general public
