Job Summary
The resident
will deliver direct clinical services, psychological assessment, outreach
programming, and multidisciplinary consultation within an integrated athletics
health model. This position emphasizes the development of advanced competencies
in assessment, crisis intervention, sport performance consultation,
interdisciplinary collaboration, and systems-level service delivery in
compliance with NCAA, conference, and state regulatory standards. This is a
supervised, training-focused appointment. Eligibility for licensure in the
State of Mississippi is required at the time of hire, with the expectation of
obtaining independent licensure within three (3) months of employment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from
an accredited institution. Completion of an APA-accredited internship prior to
the start date. Demonstrated clinical experience working with emerging adult
populations. Demonstrated competence in the administration and interpretation
of psychological assessment instruments, including intellectual (e.g., WAIS),
personality (e.g., MMPI, PAI), and psychoeducational (e.g., WJ, WRAT)
assessments. Eligibility for provisional or independent licensure in the State
of Mississippi, with the expectation of obtaining independent licensure within
three (3) months of hire. Demonstrated knowledge of ethical, legal, and
professional standards governing the practice of psychology. This position will work non-traditional and irregular hours, including
early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Advanced training or specialization in Sport Psychology or Performance Psychology.
Experience providing mental health or sport performance services within collegiate or competitive athletic settings.
Experience addressing substance misuse, eating concerns, identity development, injury and return-to-play adjustment, crisis management, anxiety, depression, and grief in athletes.
Familiarity with community-based referral networks.
Ability to present at local, national, and international conferences while adequately representing Southern Miss Athletics.
Certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology or comparable advanced training.
Experience presenting at professional conferences and engaging in scholarly dissemination.
